Work day to date night | Sequin tank + colored jeans

I have worn two slight variations of this outfit lately, so I figured it’s time to feature it on the blog! I figure, why NOT do sequins to brighten up one’s work day — and it’s a great way to go from work day to date night! 😀

After I took pics, I realized this outfit is quite similar to a casual holiday party outfit I wore years ago. Both outfits are a combo of a grey cardigan + silver sequin tank top + red pants + pewter flats + silver jewelry. It’s the same grey cardigan in both outfits, but there ARE differences:

  • different sequin tank tops (this grey-and-silver tank top feels more casual with its monochromatic stripes)
  • different red bottoms (this time red jeans instead of red ankle pants)
  • different pewter flats
  • different short hairdo (I had the “wet look” in the earlier post)
  • different jewelry (silver bar earrings instead of sparkly hoops in the earlier post)

But even with all those (admittedly subtle) differences, it’s obvious that I like what I like, and I stick with what I like and what works for me. I’m ok with that. 😉

And a note about my favorite red lipstick, the L’Oreal Infallible Le Rouge 10-hour lipstick in “Refined Ruby” — they’ve apparently discontinued that specific shade of red! They’re still selling the Infallible Le Rouge 10-hour lipstick line — I also have the same lipstick in “Everlasting Plum,” last seen here, and it really does last, y’all! — so I hustled down to my local Walgreens and stocked up on my very favorite red lipstick.

After I stocked up, I felt like this:

Pattern-mixing with navy polka dots + stripes

I am pattern-mixing AND remixing today with one of my favorite color combos, navy + green.

If you are seeing this outfit and thinking, “Haven’t I seen this outfit on the blog before?,” I would not blame you. I haven’t worn this exact combo before on the blog — colorblock cardigan + striped tank + polka-dotted skirt — but I have remixed two out of the three pieces together in different ways before, as seen in the collage below:

Remixing = real life.
Always.

Admittedly, I hadn’t worn this polka-dotted skirt in awhile, but it did amuse me how many of my colleagues in the library first complimented me on my dress. It was extra fun to see their jaws drop when I told them it was actually a tank top and a skirt. I do appreciate that my colleagues have gotten used to seeing me pattern-mix, LOL! 😀

It was still quite chilly that day — we “joke” up here in the PNW that it doesn’t really warm up until after Fourth of July — which is why you’re seeing a peek of my coat in the pic below.

I went for bronze accessories, my Mary Jane heels and my topaz drop earrings, because of the bronze buttons on my cardigan. I love my thrifted Mary Jane heels deeply, and one of the (many) things I love about them is how the perforations on the toe make a heart shape. ♥♥♥ Click the photo below for a closeup.

Mixing shades of purple with tan + leopard

Today’s outfit was inspired, in part, by a recent outfit worn by Queen Letizia of Spain, an outfit I pinned here. The inspiration outfit pairs a grey leopard coat with black trousers — which I could have easily worn — but I decided to be a bit more adventurous by pairing my grey leopard cardigan with my tan trousers instead. Switching up the neutrals… it’s a wild ride here @ Librarian for Life + Style! 😉

And once I added my purple tank top, I got inspired to add more shades of purple with my dark purple overcoat + purple lip stain. And then I had the idea of taking photos after work by these light purple walls, in order to sneak in one extra shade of purple.

I do love me some wide-leg trousers, which always look their best while one is walking. I thought y’all would appreciate seeing how the trousers paired with and without the coat. (I think my husband especially appreciated the “all about that bass” shot below. 😉 )

I love these wedges so much. (They’re Clarks, so you know they’re comfortable.) They’re just so unexpected, with the mixture of snakeskin along the front and cork for the wedge part. And you know you have a good pair of shoes on when you are complimented on them at a bus stop! 😉

SIA interpretation: Library mural

A quick note that the poll is open to vote for your favorite outfit last month — thanks in advance!

SIA inspiration pick:

And now it’s time for my interpretation of this week’s Style Imitating Art (SIA) challenge, which I curated for this round.

This week’s inspiration pick was suggested by longtime SIA participant, Mike, who also blogs at Post Card Purposes. He took photos of a mural that was recently painted in the library he works at, for a new “tween” area. The mural, “Galaxy,” is by artist Julie Hogarth, who gave her permission to use her work for our SIA inspiration. The mural is very large, encompassing at least three different walls, and includes a range of colors — and sparkle!

My interpretation:

And here’s my inspiration outfit! I had hoped perhaps to take photos in my own library, but alas, time was against me.

Librarian for Life + Style | SIA outfit collage

I wanted to capture the rainbow of colors aspect of the mural — but without looking too kitschy about it. The first item clothing I picked was my yellow cardigan, because it has a pattern of tiny stars — and the mural is called “Galaxy.” 😀 Then came my striped scarf with stripes in several different colors, a purple tank top, and my royal blue tote bag. I kept the rest of the outfit neutral, with dark jeans and brown boots.

Along with the tiny stars on my yellow cardigan, my eyes lit up when I realized I could continue the star theme with these dangly earrings, a birthday gift a few years ago from my friend Stephanie.

Still time to participate in SIA!

Everyone — bloggers, non-bloggers, all genders, all ages, even pets! — is welcome to participate. Just send a pic of an outfit — selfies and flat lays are also just fine — inspired by this week’s SIA artwork to this week’s curator — that’s me! — at librarianforlifestyle@gmail.com by tomorrow, Oct. 10th, by 10 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST). I will then post the SIA round-up on my blog this Wednesday, Oct. 11th.

Red jeans + black gingham | Weekend casual

This look is similar to the last outfit I wore with this black gingham button-front shirt, but with red jeans this time instead of a red bag. What can I say… red and black gingham just work so well together!

And this combo — skinny or straight-leg jeans with a button-front shirt, either unbuttoned or layered over a tank top — is such an easy and comfortable combo to wear. It doesn’t take much thought at all. Just as easy as a tee + jeans, just a little bit more put-together. And that’s why it’s important to have basics like these in one’s closet, as outfits are then easy to mix and match!

The backdrop is of a nearby church that I’ve long admired, the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Tacoma. Its architecture is stunning! And the front entrance and stairs are so wide and deep, I figured it would be a good backdrop for photos. 🙂

This is a VERY basic outfit, but for me, it’s the details that make this variation fresh, like the gold double straps on the flip flops and the red, white & black pattern on the clutch that ties the whole outfit together.

And when we’re running around town doing errands, I love throwing just a few essentials (e.g. chapstick, cell phone, sunglasses case) in a clutch, and and not having to lug around a big tote bag. It also helps motivate me that I have a growing collection of cute clutches! 🙂

And i just liked the photos below for their more casual view of the outfit — and of me! 😉 And I liked how the deeper red of my manicure and pedicure played off the red jeans and added a bit more depth to the red in the outfit.
