SIA interpretation: Starry silhouette

A quick reminder to please vote for your favorite outfit of mine from last month — thanks in advance!

It’s time for my interpretation for this week’s Style Imitating Art (SIA) challenge, chosen by Erin @ Loop Looks.

SIA inspiration:

Erin chose this “celestial” photo illustration because she just put up her Christmas tree which has a “celestial” theme, with ornaments of suns, moons or stars. The photo illustration, created by M_Caballero, is in the public domain via Pixabay, which you can see in more detail here.

Interpretation:

My starting point was the dominant color scheme of purple, black, and grey, which I interpreted through my combination of purple overcoat, black-and-white dotted pants, and grey-and-black ombre scarf.

My pants, which look greyish from afar, are actually black with a white polka-dotted design, which you can only see up close — that was to mimic the “stars in the sky” through the tiny polka dots. And the finishing touch was my opal stud earrings, which felt like a subtle way to get in a bit of celestial iridescence that’s in the photo illustration.

And OF COURSE I had to get photos on swings, to mimic the silhouette of the person on the swings in the artwork. 😀 We took these photos at a local park and playground.

SIA interpretation: Tempest

It’s time for my interpretation of this week’s Style Imitating Art (SIA) challenge! Salazar was the SIA curator this time around, and she chose a modern painting called “Tempest” by Florida-based artist John Larriva. You can see the painting in full here on the artist’s website, and you can find and appreciate more of Larriva’s work here.

I immediately had a mental image of what I wanted to wear, and where. And the pics Sam took were exactly what I had pictured, so fair warning, this is a photo-heavy post. I just couldn’t get enough of how beautiful the Sound looks in these pics (and in real life!).

I started with an all-black outfit, including a black turtleneck, and let the Sound serve as the blue-grey backdrop in the painting. And because my hair is short, I substituted the swirls of the woman’s long hair in the painting with the swirls of my grey-and-black ombre scarf. I don’t wear eyeliner a lot, but I did that day because the woman in the painting is also wearing eyeliner.

It’s hard to capture the ombre effect and texture of this scarf in photos; the effect is just more dynamic in person. I fashion-swapped this scarf last fall, but I think this is the first time I’ve featured it in full on the blog. (It had a cameo appearance as an accessory in this post.)

It was, in fact, starting to rain during our quick photo shoot along the Sound. And very chilly.

It amuses me that there were several photos, as seen below, that I could subtitle “Deep Thoughts,” in which I know I was really thinking things like, “Goodness, it’s chilly. Hurry up and take photos so I can put on my coat again!”

And last but not least, as we made our way down to the rocky shoreline, Sam was able to capture me in the process of throwing a rock — and the resulting splash! ♥
