Pencil skirt work casual

If you haven’t already voted, a quick reminder that the poll is still open to vote for your favorite outfit of mine from last month! ūüėÄ

This outfit is quite similar to this outfit that I wore last month: ¬†same color palette of red + grey + black; a grey library-themed tee; the same red cotton jacket + black striped canvas flats. But there’s one major difference — this time, instead of black ankle pants, I wore my stretchy black pencil skirt. This simple swap really changes the whole look for me!

Also, as I frequently like to say, remixing = real life!

Pairing a pencil skirt with sneakers feels so cool and sporty! I loved wearing this combo! And OF COURSE, I felt compelled to wear red lipstick with my red cotton jacket!

It was a bit cooler this summer work day, so the cotton jacket worked as a light layer, for outside breezes and for inside air-conditioning. But the outfit worked without the jacket, too, for a casual work combo.

Also, there’s a bonus outtake below, enjoy!

Red + grey + black work casual | Never Forget tee in grey

I mentioned in my most recent monthly budget post that I had snagged another tee with the “Never Forget” card catalog design. Y’all know that I wore it immediately to work, right? ūüėČ I wore it for a summer work casual look on a day with cooler temps. (Hence my light cotton jacket, which I actually work all day, because the A/C in the library was on high.)

If you’re wondering, “Uhhhh, what makes this outfit work-appropriate?,” it comes down to the black ankle pants for me. And a library card catalog tee will ALWAYS be work-appropriate if you work in a library. ūüėČ

Admittedly, I work in a VERY casual work environment, so this level of casual might not fly at your workplace. But to me, the ankle pants — which could very easily be black jeans for a regular casual outfit — tip it into the business side of things, while the tee and canvas flats (and the earrings, honestly) make it more casual. I could have also gone with black flats, which would have made it dressier, but I saw an opportunity to add a pattern, and I took it. #NoRegrets

I have been feelin’ the red lately, haven’t I? Red is also on trend this summer, so perhaps I’ve also been subconsciously soaking up the trend. Whatever the case, red is always classic.

And last but not least, a fun outtake! This one came about because I asked Sam if you could see my silver earrings, and he said that he couldn’t. So here y’all go, readers. Enjoy the earrings — and the red pout! ūüėČ

Books, books, books | Little free library + book-print skirt

I haven’t worn my books-and-cats-print skirt in awhile, and since it’s cotton, it’s a decent choice in summer. I went a bit retro pairing the circle skirt with a buttoned-up cardigan and a patent leather skinny belt with a fun heart buckle.

We have quite a few “Little Free Libraries” around town, so I went online to the map of officially registered little free libraries and found a very sweet-looking one in east Tacoma for a fun photo backdrop. (I also wore a variation of this outfit the next day to work at the library. Waste not, want not. ūüėČ )

Below is a closeup of my turquoise skinny belt with the heart buckle detail. And OF COURSE I had to wear my turquoise stud earrings to tie in with everything. That’s what I do y’all. Color-coordinate.

It’s summer, so that means wearing one of my favorite types of sandals, the flat t-strap sandal. These are my second pair of tan-and-gold t-strap sandals, as I detailed in this prior post.

And if you’re wondering how I managed to wear a three-quarter sleeve cardigan in the summer sunshine and not burn up, it’s because I layered it over a sports bra. No extra tank top layer around the middle, which really cuts down on the sweat factor.¬†One of my favorite clothing tricks!

Casual canvas

One last call to vote for your favorite outfit of April. Thanks in advance!

I’ve already been wearing my new geometric-print canvas flats a lot, for both casual and work looks. The first time was a casual combo, which I wore¬†to a book club meeting at a local comic book store.

Even when wearing a casual outfit, I just can’t help but pattern-mix, can I? This time, I paired bold stripes with the more subtle geometric print of the shoes. What makes them work together is the color pink that they both have in common.

The backdrop is just too perfect, isn’t it? We did not actually plan to take photos against this mural backdrop — we just happened to spot this side alley mural while we were driving to the comic book shop along 6th Avenue in Tacoma.

Casual neutrals + fox print scarf

A quick note that the poll is still open to vote for your favorite outfit from February. Thanks in advance!

I mentioned this yesterday on my Facebook page, about how it’s nice to see spring clothing starting to pop up on some other style bloggers’ sites, as spring is becoming a reality for many people in many part of this country. But not this part of the country, and not this site. Yesterday, we experienced snow and wintry mix. Last week, we had hail. So y’all will continue to see several outfits featuring winter layers, tights, boots, and coats — including today’s outfit!

The germ of today’s outfit was inspired by this casual winter outfit I pinned years ago from Crazy Style Love. The starting point for me — what turned on the lightbulb, so to speak — was the idea of an attention-getting scarf¬†on top of a classic tan overcoat. Simple as that. Jenny’s scarf is bright pink and attention-getting in terms of color, whereas my scarf is neutral-colored but attention-getting in terms of its novelty print of foxes. If it had not been raining, I would have also worn my animal-print flats (Jenny’s heels are animal print), but alas, I had to err¬†on the side of practicality. ūüėČ

Librarian for Life + Style | Dock along Ruston Way waterfront

I wore this outfit on a casual weekend morning, on our way to coffee and a late-morning movie. (We found a local movie house that plays new movies on weekends before noon for $7! Cheaper prices plus fewer people in the theater = mutual movie-going happiness.)

The dock was less crowded, as well, with more birds than people. I enjoyed that this bird decided to hang out with us during our quick photo-shoot. It was decidedly non-plussed.

We stopped off before our morning movie date to stroll one of the¬†docks along the Ruston Way waterfront. This is also the same dock we took photos at this past summer! We often enjoy walking or going places in the rain — it always means less people! ūüėČ And I think the water, as well as the waterfront, are beautiful in¬†different ways in the rain. There’s a unique kind of serenity to gazing out over a body of water when it’s overcast and a bit foggy.

But in addition to a multitude of¬†birds taking advantage of a mostly deserted dock, there was a lone fisherman on one end — decked out (har har)¬†in a bright yellow slicker. We couldn’t resist taking photos of the opportune moment. ūüôā
