SIA interpretation: Score card

It’s time for my interpretation for this week’s Style Imitating Art (SIA) challenge!

It was Erin’s turn to curate, and she found an original score card/program from the 1908 World Series, to honor the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series for the first time since 1908! Plus, the vintage card highlights men’s clothing on the score card. 🙂

And there’s still time to participate in this week’s SIA challenge. Both bloggers and non-bloggers are invited to participate. Just send a photo — selfies or flat lays also just fine — of an outfit inspired by this week’s inspiration artwork. Send a photo to Erin at looplooks@gmail.com by tonight, and Erin will post the round-up on her blog, Loop Looks, tomorrow morning.

My interpretation’s starting point was my librarian baseball tee, which also happened to have most of the colors in the score card. Win-win! I thought about wearing my red ankle pants, but I decided to go with these darker tan trousers because they had more of a menswear feel to them. I also wore pearl earring studs, to subtly call out the shape of baseballs. (Yes, I really do think of those kinds of details.)

At the last minute, I finished off the outfit with my striped canvas flats, to echo the red-striped socks the dapper man is wearing on the score card.

I wore this casual outfit this past weekend, to go out for breakfast and do some errands and to just get out of the house.

On our way to coffee and breakfast, we stopped at a local park which has a baseball diamond. I thought it would make an appropriate backdrop for photos. I definitely was feeling the more dramatic and moody pictures, and the backdrop lent itself to that.

We didn’t bring any baseball equipment with us, but Sam challenged me to throw a pitch, anyway. I obliged, and he captured a couple of fun pics. 🙂

Red, white, and blue — from summer to fall

Another day, another opportunity for a colored wall backdrop! 🙂

I wore this outfit on a day walking around Tacoma, on one of those transitional days where you could feel in the air the weather shifting from summer to fall. The shift in seasons is also reflected in what I wore, pairing a light jacket over a cotton dress and canvas flats.

I dressed just fine for the temperature (it was still warm enough for bare legs), but I did not account for the wind! I need to pay more attention to the wind advisory on the weather reports, especially now that we’re out here on the Sound. 🙂

And if you’re a longtime reader (thank you!), then you know I love to wear red, white, and blue for all seasons! And how perfect to find a bright blue wall along our walk! 🙂

Closet inventory for Pantone 2016 color of the year

A quick reminder that the $500 Nordstrom gift card giveaway is still open! (It ends January 4th.)

I’ve highlighted Pantone colors of the year before (marsala in 2015 and emerald in 2013); Pantone chooses a color every year as a “A symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.”

For 2016, Pantone combined two colors for the 2016 Color of the Year:  Rose Quartz (a soft pink) and Serenity (a dusky, periwinkle-type blue).

Pantone colors of the year for 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity

Here’s the reasoning behind Pantone’s 2016 choices:

Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.

I do believe in the power that color can bring our lives, but I cannot say I’m a personal fan of wearing the two chosen colors this year, Rose Quartz and Serenity. Being quite pale with dark hair, I do not look good in most pastels. I usually go for more saturated tones, like in this pink-and-turquoise floral skirt:

I went through my closet, and below seem to be the only items that come close to the Pantone 2016 Colors of the Year:

What do you think of the Pantone 2016 Color of the Year? Do you have these colors in your closet already? Please leave a comment and let me know!

SIA interpretation: Seasons

It’s time for my Style Imitating Art interpretation! Last week, Salazar @ 14 Shades of Grey chose four gorgeous Art Nouveau paintings by Czech artist Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), his 1896 series of four paintings called “The Seasons.” I focused most on the “Summer” painting and its colors of light blue and shades of red.

Art Nouveau style always feel very romantic to me, so I thought my new eShakti dress with its print of heart-shaped lockets fit the mood. The colors of the print also fit the colors of the painting, especially when I added my light blue cardigan. I wore my reddish brown tights to better fit the fall season.

I kept the red fabric belt that came with the dress. I like that the shape is quite distinctive and unusual.

We took photos on our front porch, as I thought the leafy backdrop fit the mood and color scheme. It also worked out well since we’ve been having so much rain lately!

There’s still time to participate in SIA! Just take a pic of an outfit inspired by this week’s inspiration, and send the pic to this week’s curator, Salazar at 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com by tonight. Salazar will then post the round-up on her blog, 14 Shades of Grey, tomorrow morning.

SIA interpretation: Leopard

Time for my Style Imitating Art (SIA) interpretation! For this week’s SIA challenge, Jess @ Animated Cardigan chose a bold, vibrant piece of art titled “Leopard I” by artist Megan Carn, who is based in Columbia, South Carolina.

Librarian for LIfe + Style | SIA interpretation: Leopard

My outfit came together quickly. I instantly thought my animal print pencil skirt would be perfect for the challenge, and then I added my light blue cardigan and a navy tee.

I pulled in the red of the inspiration painting with red lipstick. I chose simple gold hoops as a classic, finishing touch.

Gotta admit, I felt pretty great in this SIA outfit, comfortable and put-together. I NEVER would have thought to pair my light blue cardigan with this skirt, but I really liked the effect when it all came together. The colors in the animal print are a little different and unexpected to begin with, and the light blue really popped against it. Totally fit my “comfy + classic with a bit of quirk” style outlook.

So there is still time to participate in SIA! Just send a pic of an outfit inspired by this week’s SIA choice to Jess at animatedcardigan [at] gmail.com by tonight, October 19. Jess will post the SIA round-up shortly after on her blog, Animated Cardigan.
