What, me, pattern-mix? SHOCKING. ūüėČ

I wore this outfit for a casual coffee meet-up with a fellow librarian in the region, but I still wanted to look professional. Can’t go wrong with a classic black and red and leopard print combo!

Since I didn’t have to go to work this day, I could get away with this smaller crossbody bag. And it’s amazing how much this crossbody bag and my coordinating red lipstick helped elevate this simple look!

Stripes and nautical with pops of red

Today’s outfit is one I wore out on the weekend (coffee date with the hubby!), and it was inspired by multiple similar combos pinned on my “Casual inspiration” Pinterest board, including this pin, this pin, and this pin. Pattern-mixing along with a red, white + blue color scheme?¬†Right up my alley!

We enjoyed one of those chilly but bright winter days — a rarity to enjoy actual sunshine during February up here in the Pacific Northwest! We made the most of it. ūüôā

Also, the picture below with my scarf enjoying the breeze just cracked me up!

There are subtle bits of a nautical theme in my outfit, including my rope knot earrings, the chain on the crossbody purse, as well as my vintage scarf featuring Dutch tiles (some of the tiles include ships).

I chose my grey overcoat to tie in with my grey-striped tee and grey ankle booties, but after-the-fact, I also thought it fun that the coat has military touches with the button details. Also ties in with the nautical elements!

If you’re a longtime reader (thank you), then you’ll now I love these leather-and-suede grey booties. But I think this is the first time I’ve featured them with wider-leg bottoms. I’ve always worn them with skinny jeans or pants before, to show off more of the boots themselves. But they’re comfortable to wear — and super practical with their rubber soles — so it’s good to use more opportunities to wear them.

The backdrop, by the way, is the imaginatively named “East 34th Street Bridge,” located — you guessed it! — along East 34th Street in Tacoma. There are two halves to the bridge, one newer half and one older half. This is the older half, from when the bridge was originally built in 1937, and it has those special kinds of details like the picturesque ledges and carved-out¬†arches. Because the bridge overlooks a lot of trees in a gulch, I want to take¬†outfit photos on this bridge in every season, to showcase how the seasons change here in Tacoma. What do y’all think?

Then and now: Teal tee and vintage skirt remixed

Almost exactly three years ago, I paired together a basic teal tee and my mom’s vintage skirt from Thailand, along with a vintage statement necklace. This summer, I again reached for the teal tee and vintage skirt, this time remixing the outfit¬†with statement earrings.

I love the teal and brown together and the more casual vibe this go-round. Perhaps that also comes from untucking the tee?

It’s also appropriate — and unplanned, I promise! — that I wore this vintage skirt of my mom’s from Thailand along with dangly earrings I got from a more recent trip to Thailand ON MY WAY to eat lunch at a Thai restaurant. Style synergy, y’all. ūüėČ

Bright and bold in berry + black and white stripes

This might just turn out to be my favorite outfit for the month! I love the bright and bold color combo of berry + black and white, as well as the pattern-mixing with the crossbody bag and striped dress.

I wore this cheery outfit on a weekend outing for a breakfast with friends, followed by a bit of shopping and a haircut trim. It turned out to be a sunny day, but since I was starting out on public transit in the early morning chill, I wore leggings. I thought about basic black leggings, but then I realized that my berry-colored leggings almost exactly matched my cardigan. An opportunity to color-coordinate? As I’ve said before, color-coordination = LOVE.

Sam caught the¬†photo below as the breeze kicked up. Such a fun shot! (And thank goodness I wore leggings in windy weather! ūüėČ )

Blog anniversary + red handbag review

Happy blogiversary! Three years ago, I started this style blog, and thank you to everyone who has been around for this journey! ūüôā (And if you’d like to see straightaway if you’re the giveaway winner, scroll down to the bottom.)

Today’s outfit feels very me, with a mix of classic (blazer + red lipstick), comfy (trouser jeans + tee), and a bit of quirk (pattern-mixing with stripes +¬†leopard print flats). My Top 10 remix item is my grey striped tee, which you can see better in pics below.

And yes, this is a photo-heavy post. But it’s my blog anniversary, and I’ll pose if I want to! ūüėÄ

Librarian for Life + Style | Blazer + trouser jeans + red handbag

And for today’s post, I wanted to feel classy and pretty. And how better to do that than with my new handbag from Greg Michaels? They recently offered me a choice of a new bag — you can read my review of my blue Greg Michaels tote here — and this time, I chose their Greg Michaels Rebecca in Red Envelope Style Handbag. I have nothing else like it in my closet, and I wanted to try something new.

The bag is a classic color and shape, and I like the simplicity of the design. The leather shoulder strap is also a smart¬†touch, as it makes the chain strap more comfortable to wear. The red color is a classic true red, and the quality of the Nappa leather — and quality overall — is very high. Also classy is the drawstring bag the handbag comes in! I also appreciate how the bags are packaged for shipping, with the metal bits protected by plastic to prevent¬†scratches, as seen below.

I also love the design detail of how the chain wraps in and around the top flap of the bag.

The interior is not very large, so this is most definitely not an everyday kind of purse for me. But I managed to pare down the essentials, and my phone fits in it. I like how the front envelope detail, as seen above, is also a pocket, and there are two additional interior pockets.

The drawback to this handbag is that although it’s categorized as a crossbody, it feels a bit short on my body. I’d personally prefer it to hit just a bit lower on me. BUT that gave me an idea for how to mix up the look of this bag. Thinking about¬†the leather shoulder strap detail, I thought it would be fun to turn this crossbody bag into a clutch. How? I pulled the chain down into the bag — the excess chain slid neatly into the back pocket — and then secured it with a twist tie. (Tip: ¬†I threaded the twist tie through the links on both sides of the chain to make sure it held.)

And by doing that, I now have two more options for how to wear this gorgeous handbag, by either (1) carrying it as a small handbag, or (2) by slipping my hand through the leather strap to carry as a clutch. Both ways are shown below.

And you might also have noticed new earrings I’m sporting in these pics — also from Greg Michaels! I chose the Serenity earrings¬†— again, I went for a¬†classic shape. I like that the size is not too big on my ears. Big enough for sparkle, but small enough to still be a bit subtle. The earrings are also quite lightweight, another plus.
