Favorite outfit of January 2018

Time for a look back at my outfits in January and vote for your favorite! As I focused on retrospective posts at the beginning of the month, there are only four new outfits this past month. But each outfit highlights a different coat (!), so it’s really a contest for your favorite coat this month! 😉

My most popular outfit, in terms of total views, was #1, my burgundy overcoat over a grey dress and animal print scarf. My own personal favorite was #2, as it features my new teal overcoat (still available online!) and that I actually was able to pack in a lot of special — but subtle! — details in this casual outfit, if you look closely.

And now it’s your turn! What was your favorite outfit of January? Scroll below the collage to vote for your favorite straightaway or feel free to browse. All the outfits are linked to their original posts below the collage.

2017 recap: Monthly outfit favorites

One final favorites post for 2017… this one highlights all the reader faves, personal faves, and most viewed outfit posts each month of 2017. I have put similar post together the last few years to highlight all the 2013 monthly faves, the 2014 monthly faves, the 2015 monthly faves, and the 2016 monthly faves.

I’ll work backward, starting with December 2017. For each month, I’m highlighting:

  • the most-viewed post
  • the reader poll winner
  • my personal fave
  • my husband’s personal fave

Each original outfit post is linked below the collage, so you can explore to your heart’s content!

December 2017 favorites:

This past month marked the THIRD time I chose a personal fave featuring my cat-print skirt! (Also see February and January’s collages below). The faves this month all featured skirts, and I was quite surprised to see my personal fave also top the reader poll.

November 2017 favorites:

All dresses and skirts for this month’s faves! Interesting to note that both Sam and I went for patterned dresses, while the most viewed + poll winner outfit was all about color-blocking.

October 2017 favorites:

This month, the poll winner is the odd one out, as the rest of the faves featured one of my new sweaters c/o Tobi. Also, Sam wanted me to include the fact that his runner-up faves include my two DIY Halloween costumes, my Wonder Woman costume and my Atomic Blonde costume. Duly noted for the record, sir.

September 2017 favorites:

Sam’s the odd one out this month! I think he voted just as much for the coffee as he did for my SIA-inspired outfit (he looooooooves coffee, y’all). And both outfits are SIA-inspired outfits, actually! Just goes to show how much I love thinking about and creating outfits for SIA challenges, which I think shows through in my posts. This month’s faves also demonstrate just how unpredictable the weather is in September for the PNW — the weather can shift from shorts to sweaters within the span of a few weeks (or days)!

August 2017 favorites:

It’s funny that the outfit that won the reader poll plus and the most-viewed post of the month was an outfit that I wasn’t even planning to photograph for the blog! It was my husband’s idea to take photos that day, so good call! (And OF COURSE Sam chose the “cars and couture” post for his personal fave, LOL! 😀 )

July 2017 favorites:

Sam and I chose one mutual fave this month, but I was surprised at the variety of different outfits that ended up as the collective faves.

June 2017 favorites:

Wow, four different faves in June! What I love most is that they are four different prints:  diamond clusters, stripes, palm leaves, and a floral paisley.

May 2017 favorites:

Everything’s coming up rose-colored! Shades of pink or purple are in every winning outfit, even though each outfit is so different. My personal fave matched up with the poll winner, yay! 😀

April 2017 favorites:

It’s rare that Sam and I choose a mutual monthly fave! Very different color palettes in the faves this month, but all were skirts or dresses.

March 2017 favorites:

Allllllllmost a clean sweep for my wrap dress worn as a long cardigan. I was actually very surprised that my yellow-and-black SIA outfit sneaked in there!

February 2017 favorites:

I like that Sam and I split the faves, with mine matching up with the most viewed, and Sam’s matching up with the poll winner. I also noted how two different patterned circle skirts won the month, full stop. 😉

January 2017 favorites:

I noted a touch of cognac in the three different faves to start off 2017. I was jazzed that my own personal fave once again matched the poll winner. And Sam’s favorite was summed up in one phrase:  “Snow bunny!” 😀

2017 recap: Most popular posts

Continuing in the posts this week of highlighting favorites… now time for YOUR favorites this past year! (On Friday I’ll be posting my annual retrospective of the 2017 monthly favorites.)

Below are the most popular posts from 2017, the ones that got the most views all throughout last year. It means a lot to me that older posts are still going strong.

Let’s start from the top!

#1:  What to wear to a pajama party

Librarian for Life + Style | Screenshot from 'What to wear to a pajama party' collage and post

It is still AMAZING to me that for three straight years, this post from December 2014 has consistently racked up views all year long. I sincerely had NO IDEA this post would be so popular when I first put it together.

#2:  OTI: Mixing It up

Librarian for Life + Style | Handmade tie belt from two ties

This casual work outfit post from 2012 (!) has once again landed in the top 2 for the second straight year! I think it’s so high because of the focus on this obi-style belt I made from two vintage ties — this photo is still one of my top-pinned pics on Pinterest. (Want to make your own obi-style belt? You can also see my DIY how-to post for how to make one of these obi-style belts from two ties, which I published this past year.)

#3:  Why I’m a style blogger, not a fashion blogger

Librarian for Life + Style | Pics from my first blogger party

This post also made the top 10 last year, but just barely, coming in at #9. This year, this 2016 made it to the top 3! It’s a straightforward post, with a simple and descriptive title.

#4:  Agatha Raisin style inspiration

Librarian for Life + Style | Brown tweed + black sweater + tan trench

This is the first time this post has made the top 10, and it’s a post I published over a year ago, in the fall of 2016. This remains one of my own personal favorite outfit posts, as well!

#5:  The smile behind my style: Review of Smile Brilliant whitening kit

Librarian for Life + Style | Reviewing the Smile Brilliant whitening kit

I wrote and published this review post a little over a year ago, and it’s nice to see a review post make the top 10!

#6:  About

Librarian for Life + Style | About

This is a page, not a specific post, but for the second year in a row, my “About” page has cracked the top 10 for the year! FYI, I also link my FAQs page off this About page.

#7:  Adventures in sewing: Shortening a halter neck strap

Librarian for Life + Style | How to shorten halter neck straps

This sewing post from summer 2015 didn’t get many views or comments at the time I published it, but its longevity is a nice surprise. It also made the top 10 last year!

#8:  5 fun facts + 5 outtakes to celebrate 5th blogiversary

Librarian for Life + Style | Outtake

Yay, an outtakes post made the top 10 for 2017! As I do outtakes-themed post at least 3 times a year — for New Year’s in January, for my blog anniversary in April, and for my birthday in August — I was once again pleased that an outtakes post made the cut.

#9:  Monthly budget adventures (March 2017)

Librarian for Life + Style | What I got (March 2017)

I was admittedly surprised to see this monthly budget post make the top 10! This was a good month, as I still regularly wear everything I got this month last year.

#10:  Monthly budget adventures (September 2017) + recent Target shopping experience

Librarian for Life + Style | Trying on dusty rose skinny jeans at Target

Last but not least, I was very pleased to see this monthly budget post make the top 10, as I went into detail into the highs and lows (there were a LOT of lows!) trying on the new “A New Day” clothing line at Target.

2017 recap, favorite purchases + 2018 shopping goals

As I mentioned in my final “monthly budget adventures” post of 2017, I spent less than $900 total on my clothing budget for the year.

Looking back over the items that I purchased throughout 2017, it’s interesting to note that several of my favorites were actually replacement items, including the black tote bag, sneakers, and wallet I purchased last year.

Librarian for Life + Style | Collage of favorite purchases for 2017

My favorites overall were:

2018 shopping goals

My shopping goals for 2018 are pretty simple — Both Sam and I am embarking on a year of no shopping for new clothes! (This will not include replacing necessities like underwear, nor will it include any c/o items.) I’ve felt this coming for awhile, as it will give me a chance to really get to know what’s in my closet and reassess my style and my wardrobe.

So my shopping goals for 2018 are really #noshoppinggoals.

How about you? What are your shopping goals for the new year? Please leave a comment and share.

2017 recap: Favorite photos

For the next couple of weeks, I will be highlighting favorites from 2017 in a “2017 recap” mini-series! (And if you haven’t already, please take a minute to vote for your favorite outfit of mine from December.)

This will be the fourth year in a row that I’ve I highlighted my favorite photos of the year. See here for my favorite photos from 2014, favorites from 2015, and favorites from 2016. Note that my favorite pics are not necessarily from my favorite posts or of my favorite outfits.

I’ve also linked the original blog post below each pic, so you can enjoy exploring.

Librarian for Life + Stye | Downtown Tacoma in the springtime

Stripes + pleats + cherry blossoms (April 2017):  I love how this photo captures the spirit of springtime in downtown Tacoma, with views of Mt. Rainier in the background, cherry blossoms in the foreground, and sights of the Tacoma Dome, Washington State History Museum, and the Tacoma Art Museum.

Librarian for Life + Style | Teal ankle pants + black accents outtake

Black + teal summer date outfit (August 2017):  Obviously I love Mt. Rainier! We took this photo along North Ruston way on my birthday.

Librarian for Life + Style | The yellow duck wants to see the glass sculptures at the Museum of Glass, too!Wonder Woman casual outfit for the Tacoma Festival of Sail (June 2017):  This photo Sam took during the Festival of Sail, when the world’s largest duck came to dock! 😀

Librarian for Life + Style | Purple cat tee remix

SIA interpretation: Flowering tree (May 2017):  When this post went live, I mentioned how I loved this photo, for its colors and Japanese-esque type composition. Can you tell I love cherry blossom season?! ♥

Librarian for Life + Style | Sam outfit, plaid shirt + burgundy trousers

Sam’s style, plaid + burgundy (August 2017):  Speaking of composition… I love this photo for its symmetry, Sam’s outfit, and the UW-Tacoma sign. I obviously am drawn to photos that highlight our beloved Tacoma!

Librarian for Life + Style | Ruston Way waterfront in Tacoma

Red + chambray casual | Ruston Way waterfront (September 2017):  Speaking of which… here’s another favorite featuring the Ruston Way waterfront along the Puget Sound.

Librarian for Life + Style | What I wear at home

What I wear at home (February 2017):  This is from a snow day last winter, when I realized it would be fun to do a “what I wear while blogging at home” kind of post.

Librarian for Life + Style | Navy + pink stripes for spring

Navy + pink stripes for springtime (April 2017):  This photo features trees — more cherry trees! — in Wright Park, one of our favorite spots and public parks in the city.

Librarian for Life + Style | Audrey Hepburn style inspiration, all black outfit

Audrey Hepburn style inspiration: All black + silver hoop earrings (July 2017):  I did a 3-part “Audrey Hepburn style inspiration” series this past summer, and this was my favorite photo from the first post.

Librarian for Life + Style | DIY Halloween costume, dressing up as the Atomic Blonde

DIY Halloween costume | Dressing up as the Atomic Blonde (October 2017):  So many fun photos of me in a blonde wig for this Halloween DIY costume post! I just love how badass I looked in this photo! 😀

Librarian for Life + Style | DIY Halloween costume, dressing up as Wonder Woman / Diana Prince, closeup

DIY Halloween costume | Dressing up as Wonder Woman / Diana Prince (October 2017):  And finally, I’ve selected the photo illustration my husband did when I dressed up as Wonder Woman / Diana Prince for Halloween; my husband took this photo with my reflection in the window so that he could insert a photo composite illustration of Wonder Woman in her action costume.
