White Christmas style inspiration, take 2

As I mentioned earlier this week, I was inspired to recreate some of my favorite fashions in the classic 1954 musical, White Christmas. (It’s no longer the holiday season, but I can watch this movie any day of the year!)

In the previous post, I recreated a costume worn by Rosemary Clooney in this scene from the movie:

Today, I’m recreating… Bing Crosby’s costume in this same scene! The ladies don’t get all the sartorial fun in this movie; the men get to wear super stylish outfits, too, with layers of textures and patterns. And jaunty scarves! 😉

Here’s another look at Bing Crosby’s costume, when he goes outside and dons a fedora:

I’m no stranger to menswear-inspired style, but of course, my versions of Bing’s grey tweed blazer and trousers are more feminine in cut. I also flipped the navy in his outfit from his navy polo shirt to my navy trousers. And I added my husband’s grey fedora, as y’all know I also love to wear fedoras!

And OF COURSE I was excited about recreating the neck scarf. My only problem was which neck scarf to choose (!), as I have a few with blue tones in them. I finally chose a silk scarf I thrifted years ago in Portland, with bits of orange and an edging of bright blue.

Now that is menswear done right. That fedora suits you. The pretty patterned silk scarf keeps this all feminine and beautiful, too.

I love that movie and Holiday Inn as well! You’ve done a marvelous job of adapting the feel and style of Bing’s look into an ensemble that looks retro and modern at the same time. I applaud your creativity. Thanks for sharing your post with my Fine-Whatever link up.
