Subtle candy cane striped nails

Those of you who subscribe to my Instagram feed have already seen my most recent manicure, but I thought y’all would all enjoy my holiday nails — a subtle candy stripe!

Behold:

Here’s how I achieved this subtle candy cane stripe effect:

I started out with a base coat of red, a Revlon shade that I’ve had for years. Then I did thin stripes with my a Sally Hansen nail art pen I picked up this past summer. The pearly white stripes looked kind of uneven — and too glaring for my taste — so I did another coat of red on top. That made the stripes look more subtle, and more intentional, somehow. Then I followed up with with my regular top coat of Seche Vite dry fast polish.

Here are the nail polishes I used:

Details:

  • Sally Hansen nail art pen in “Pearly White” {exact}
  • Seche Vite dry fast top coat {exact}
  • Revlon polish in “Frankly Scarlet” {similar polish, “Raven Red,” by same brand}

I honestly wasn’t sure how the nails would come out, but I ended up really enjoying the more subtle effect of the candy stripes.

And here’s a photo from my Instagram feed when I wore a red-and-white striped sweater. Candy stripes times two! 😀
