Mixing small-scale patterns again | Yellow + brown

A quick note that the poll is open to vote for your favorite outfit of mine from July — thanks in advance! 🙂

This is an outfit from a few weeks ago — you can tell because of my yellow toenail polish — but better late than never, right? This is an outfit I wore to work soon after I got my hair cut shorter in a pixie cut. I didn’t actually plan on taking pics of this outfit, but in the end, I figured it was another good example of how mixing small-scale patterns can work. (You can also see here how I mixed small-scale patterns, from earlier in the summer.)

The pattern on my sleeveless dress is a different take on polka dots that looks kind of like a basketweave print from afar, and my cardigan — a true VIP in my closet! — has a subtle pattern of little starbursts.

Even though this dress and cardigan combo might seem a bit formal for summer work behind-the-scenes at the library, my strappy sandals helped ground the outfit for me and provide a casual edge to the overall look. But honestly, I primarily dress for myself, so I don’t mind dressing up a bit, even if it’s just behind the scenes! 🙂

We took these photos after work, and I had already taken off my sandals — like I said, I didn’t plan on taking pics, which I generally prefer to do in the mornings — so when Sam suggested we take pics, I decided to stay barefoot as we walked out to our backyard. I thought holding my sandals this time around looked kind of cute, and a little unexpected — and true-to-life in that moment! 😀

And I have been enjoying the coconut shell jewelry set I bought earlier in the summer. I have found that I prefer to wear to wear the earrings and the necklace, seen here, separately. Together, the effect is a little much for me. I prefer choosing one statement piece of jewelry to wear, earrings or a necklace, but not two statement pieces at the same time.
