Shoe love: Adding color + pattern with canvas flats

I figured it was high time for another “Shoe love” post! I’ve recently noticed how my collection of slip-on canvas flats has risen in the last few years (including 2 new pairs this year!) — and that all my canvas flats have some kind of pattern.

Let’s explore my collection of canvas flats, shall we?

Top row:  Wide-striped pair, Payless, old {similar pair}  //  Tan + polka-dotted, Grasshoppers, old {similar style by same brand}
Middle row:  Geometric print, Target, new {exact pair}  //  Espadrille style, Target, new {exact pair}
Bottom row:  Black striped, Payless, old {similar pair in black stripes}  //  Thin striped pair, Target, old {similar pair}

I’ve worn these slip-on canvas flats with all different kinds of clothing items, including dresses, skirts, ankle pants, trousers, shorts, and jeans, as seen below:

These slip-on canvas flats aren’t for everyone, I know, so let’s explore the drawbacks and benefits to wearing this kind of shoe.

Drawbacks?

For me, there aren’t many drawbacks to wearing these shoes. It all comes down to personal comfort level, but I’ve noticed that sometimes, the interior of these shoes can cause friction when I wear these a long time. So you might need to wear a kind of breathable sock liner, like these, and/or a cushioned insert, like this one, to make wearing these shoes more comfortable for the long haul.

Benefits?

For me, the benefits FAR outweigh any drawbacks. And I’m used to tricking out my shoes with inserts, so that’s not a big deal for me. The benefits include:

  • an easy way to jazz up a basic outfit with a pop of color or pattern
  • comfort and walkability
  • variety of options at every price point
  • versatility

Seriously, these shoes look good with EVERYTHING — as I’ve tried to demonstrate above — bringing a casual edge to work-appropriate outfits while at the same time bringing a more put-together vibe to more causal outfits. I just can’t get enough of them!

    I recently bought slip-on canvas shoes for the next time I get on an airplane. Of course, I will also be wearing socks. This way I can easily take off my shoes for airport security and just as easily put them back on again–no shoelaces to worry about. Wearing canvas shoes will also be better than sandals in case of an emergency on the plane. My feet will be better protected.

    So many cute canvas shoes! I am partial to all the striped pairs. I really like your look with the kitty tee and wide legged pants. So stylish! Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday!

    Those are all so cute! I love the white dress with the pretty blue top, styled with the neutral sandals. And then there are those striped canvas! So cute. Thank you for the informative post, I have yet to try those. Also, thank you for linking up with the Thursday Moda!
