New nail polish | Cinna-snap

It’s, uh, been awhile since I’ve done a nail polish post. The last one was in fall 2015 (!) — sorry about that oversight!

It’s actually been months since I painted my fingernails. But I rectified that recently by trying out a new polish, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color in Cinna-Snap.

I didn’t do anything fancy with the manicure, like adding chevron stripes, as seen here, or dipped in sparkly polish, as seen here. Just straight on with the single “Cinna-Snap” color. I think it dried a little darker on my nails than it looked in the bottle — I liked the final color, a warm red somewhere inbetween red and burgundy.

I waited about five minutes, then did a second coat of the nail polish, waited another five minutes, and then topped it off with my go-to quick-dry top coat, Seche Vite.

Being a quick-dry nail polish, I wasn’t sure how long this polish would really last. Even with two coats of the nail polish plus the top coat, the nail polish only lasted a week. But it did look really good for that week. Then, almost like clockwork, after that week, it started chipping around the edges. And chipping is always more noticeable with a darker nail polish.

Below is what my manicure looked like yesterday, a week and a half since I first put on the nail polish. (This is also what it looked like right before I took it off.)

Final verdict? I liked the color and the quick drying time, which is what I primarily needed the polish for for when I bought it. I just need to be aware that this polish lasts only a week and not to expect it to last longer than that. (I normally prefer a manicure to last two weeks, which is probably why I usually prefer metallic nail polishes, which I’ve found to have longer staying power.)

Yes, we all keep searching for long-lasting nail polish, don’t we? I have learned the hard way that it really does make a difference to do at least two coats of polish plus using a quick-dry top coat. It takes longer and strains my patience, but it does make the manicure last longer.

I have never had an at home manicure last a full week. My nails are thin and tend to bend easily. I think that is why the polish never lasts for me. I may give this one a try.

Do your manicures last longer when you get them done at a nail salon? For me, at-home manicures come down to me taking the time to do multiple coats of the polish plus the top coat. I have seen base coat polishes — would using a base coat to strengthen nails work for you? Just thinking out loud.

As long as it last a week and it’s a 5 free toxic, then that’s fine with me. The color looks good and this will be a good choice when you want your nails to look FAB in a hurry, since it dry fast.
