SIA interpretation: Venus poster

Time for my Style Imitating Art (SIA) interpretation, this round curated by SIA co-founder Salazar @ 14 Shades of Grey.

Inspiration:

Salazar chose an awesome space travel poster! of Venus, one in a series created by the Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) of the California Institute of Technology for NASA’s. You can browse and download all the posters here for free and learn more about the poster project here.

How to participate in SIA:

There is still time to join the SIA fun this week! Everyone — bloggers, non-bloggers, all genders, all ages, even pets! — is welcome to participate. Just send a pic of an outfit — selfies and flat lays are also just fine — inspired by this week’s SIA artwork to this week’s curator, Salazar, at 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com by tomorrow, May 23rd. Salazar will then post the SIA round-up on her blog, 14 Shades of Grey, on Wednesday the 24th.

Interpretation:

I had an immediate idea for what to wear for this SIA challenge (even though I don’t have any blush pink or sherbet colors in my wardrobe, as they tend to wash me out). I focused on the grey, silver, white, and tan colors in the poster, pairing together a grey-striped tee and tan trousers — and then found a wall that looked pinky orange to me to supply the backdrop.

And I created my own dome of sorts, like in the poster, with an umbrella — a happy accident, because it had started drizzling! 🙂 (This is the spare umbrella we had in the car.)

And of course, you know me and details. I added my metallic pewter round-toe wedges, to mimic the rounded edge of the dome in the poster. Same thing with my metallic-dipped porcelain, teardrop-shaped earrings and necklace set by Zoë Comings.

This was a super simple outfit, and I really enjoyed wearing it. You could also very easily make this outfit even more casual, by switching out the wide-leg trousers for tan ankle pants, and the wedges for flats or sandals.

Great interpretation, Jen. The orange wall & clever addition of the umbrella really pull it all together. 🙂

I love how you called having the umbrella a “happy accident” and used that as part of your interpretation. You always come up with the best ideas (and backgrounds!) for your SIAs! 🙂
