SIA interpretation: Flowering tree

A quick note that the poll is open to vote for your favorite outfit of April — thanks in advance!

It’s time for my interpretation for this week’s Style Imitating Art (SIA) challenge, this time chosen by Erin @ Loop Looks.

SIA inspiration pick:

Erin chose another lovely piece by a growARTS artist. GrowARTS is a program at Garden Center Services, an organization that provides services and job training for adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. The goal of growARTS is to have the adults they serve create art that they then sell. If you’d like to learn more about growARTS and how important a cause it is, watch this video:  https://www.facebook.com/growARTSgcs/videos/1336387089779126/

My interpretation:

The starting point was, of course, the cherry blossom tree as the backdrop. I had seen this tree blooming at the end of the East 34th Street Bridge, and it totally echoes this week’s SIA inspiration artwork. Perfect timing!

This cat tee says, “Te quiero mucho” (which means “I love you a lot” in Spanish), but the rounded font makes it look more like, “Le quiero.” I layered the tee over my black knit dress, in order to be more streamlined around the waist.

I kind of love that when I pulled the tee tight and looped the excess fabric into a knot, the design’s pink border trim morphed into a heart-like shape! ♥

And yes, it’s still been cold enough for tights. (Sigh.) But it worked out well for this SIA challenge, as my black tights and black skirt help to “ground” the look, like the trunk of the tree in the inspiration painting. 😉

The photo below might just be my favorite of the bunch. I think it’s the color combination of the light green of the budding trees in the background, along with the soft pink of the cherry blossom buds in the foreground. It feels like a Japanese-esque type composition, no?

A fit-and-flare dress and twirling? But OF COURSE. 😉

There’s still time to participate in SIA!

Everyone — bloggers, non-bloggers, all genders, all ages, even pets! — is welcome to participate. Just send a pic of an outfit — selfies and flat lays are also just fine — inspired by this week’s SIA artwork to this week’s curator, Erin, at looplooks@gmail.com. Erin will post the SIA round-up on her blog, Loop Looks, on Wednesday, May 10th, so get those photos in to her before then.
