Everyday faves | Native deodorant

Everyday faves series

This is the latest entry in my now-monthly series about “Everyday faves,” to highlight everyday, or commonplace, things — or practices or habits — that make a difference in my life. For me, these posts are an exercise in self-reflection and appreciation.

Posts in the series have included:

Native deodorant

This month, I’m highlighting my love of the all-natural, non-toxic deodorant from the Native brand. And this is probably the most literal entry in my “Everyday faves,” series thus far, since I wear deodorant EVERY DAY. 😀

Going Native

Back in February, I posted on my Facebook page about first trying out the deodorant that I had read good things about. (Of course, now I can’t find the posts and articles I had been reading earlier this year. Murphy’s Law.

After trying out the deodorant for a couple of months, I posted a follow-up on my Facebook page:

Switching over to an all-natural deodorant

I chose two scents, because they were doing a special discount at the time if you bought two or more deodorants. I chose the “Lavender & Rose” scent and an Unscented one just in case I didn’t like the “Lavender & Rose” one. I do like the “Lavender & Rose” scent, and it’s not overpowering at all. The sticks came in this cardboard shipping box, seen above, and the box arrived in just a few days. Gotta love free AND fast shipping!

Both deodorants are in my medicine cabinet now, and I use each stick about equally. I just go with the scent — or unscent — depending on my mood each day. (I’ve also noticed they have seasonal scents available at different times.)

There was a card enclosed in the package, seen below, with tips for how to transition to using the Native all-natural deodorant. It does take a bit of time to make the switch, for your body to adjust. It felt like it took me a couple of weeks, but it didn’t feel hard at all to transition. I just felt a little extra sweaty the first week or two.

Does it work?

In a word, YES. It worked for me, at least. I waited a couple of months to write this review and post, because I wanted to make sure I really could recommend Native deodorant. And I do recommend it. The peace of mind alone is worth it, knowing that it’s non-toxic, aluminum-free and paraben-free. (There’s also a sensitive option, for those sensitive to baking soda.)

I still sweat when I’m wearing the Native deodorant, which is natural, but I don’t stink by the end of the day. (Thank goodness!) I put it on the morning, about three swipes back and forth, and then I can just go about my day. It’s AWESOME. Plus, it doesn’t seem to be leaving any gross residue so far on the underarms of my shirts and dresses. I used to use the “invisible” type of deodorants, like from Secret or Lady Speed Stick, but when it came time for laundry day, I would STILL find a build-up of white residue on the underarms of my dark shirts and dresses. I have not found that kind of residue build-up on my clothes thus far after two months of wearing Native deodorant.

I honestly don’t think I will ever go back to regular deodorants. I am a #GoNative convert. An all-natural deodorant that WORKS. It’s like the magical unicorn of body care products.

I decided to try it out. I’ve been using natural deodorant for years — but feeling like my current brand might not be quite cutting it. It is also fun to mention that the confirmation order you get from them is HILARIOUS.

What’s your take on how effective this would be during a workout? Been curious to try it, but a bit apprehensive about protection during the really sweaty times!

That is an excellent question! And one I don’t know the answer to. But I did go through reader reviews on the Native site and looked for some that talked about exercising. Here are a few workout-related reviews I found:

“I own a Pilates studio so I spend most of my day up close & personal with my clients. It is vital that my deodorant work for me!😬 I saw a review of the Native brand & was intrigued & decided to give it a try. I am hooked! I’ve told all my clients & anyone else who will listen. Not only do I only apply it once a day, by the end of the day I do not smell no matter how much I have sweat. And I sweat a lot!!!”

“I lift weights so I needed something to withstand sweaty gym sessions and found it with Native! ”

“I LOVE this deodorant and I’ve tried quite a few. Working out, racing around all day – it stands up to everything with no stink factor. I highly highly recommend it!!”

      Hope this helps! 🙂

I’m incredibly interested in this since I’ve been trying to find a natural deodorant which works for me for years and have tried many! At the moment I am using the Crystal roll in deodorant. I’m glad to hear it means you don’t smell at the end of the day, I’ve had a few issues with some brands. I will go and check this out and see how UK shipping might work out. Thanks.

A few reviews on the Native site mention reapplying during the day, but I haven’t felt the need to do that myself. But darn! I just looked on their site, and it says that they currently only ship to the U.S. and Canada. 😦 That is a bummer, and something I should have checked before I posted the review. Sorry about getting your hopes up!
