Not that long ago, I was looking at my thrifted wrap dress — the one featured here, here and here — and thinking that I always wore it essentially the same way: as a dress, either with or without a cardigan, depending on the weather. I wear the dress more often than it appears on the blog, because I just keep wearing it the same way, and I don’t want to keep repeating it as such on the blog. But I repeat it in real life. It’s a go-to dress when I don’t really want to have to think about what I’m wearing.
And then I saw this post about “How to Wear a Wrap Dress as a Cardigan” from the oh-so-fabulous Psyche of the Economy of Style blog. My eyes lit up, my brain switched on, and my mouth broke into a smile. A new way to wear a wrap dress?! YESSSSSSSSSSS 😀
Right after I read the Economy of Style blog post, we had on the forecast a rare day of sunshine and no rain. I took advantage of the opportunity!
I’ve written before how I feel like my best self when I’m feeling long ‘n’ lean — and I’ve written about this while I wearing this wrap dress as a wrap dress. I also felt gloriously long ‘n’ lean wearing this wrap dress as a long cardigan duster. It sounds odd, but it’s true: when a taller lady wears longer items of clothing (shorts, dresses, skirts, cardigans), she ends up looking taller.
As the Economy of Style blog post points out, pulling the wrap ties inside and knotting them at the back was the way to go to convert this dress into a long cardigan. I also continued the “long ‘n’ lean” theme with my accessories, finishing off the look with my long gold chain and bar pendant.
Sam also made the excellent point that because this wrap dress has a collar, it made it look more like a jacket, more intentional. I’ll take it!
I felt this outfit looked best when I was walking, to allow for more movement and flow in the dress/cardigan. So I will admit that I took EVERY OPPORTUNITY to get up and walk around this work day, to feel like I was gliding around in my flowy cardigan dress. True story. #noregrets
Y’all, I felt GREAT in this outfit. And it showed. I felt comfy and confident and chill, and my co-workers picked up on that. I got so many compliments on this outfit — and they were all surprised when I let them know it was a wrap dress that I was wearing as a long cardigan. It’s fun to keep surprising my new co-workers with my sartorial experimentation! 😉
