SIA interpretation: Pond in the Woods

SIA inspiration pick:

Now it is time for my sartorial interpretation of this week’s Style Imitating Art (SIA) challenge, chosen by Erin @ Loop Looks. She chose the 1922 Georgia O’Keeffe painting called “Pond in the Woods” that she was lucky to see in person at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in December. As Erin says, “I like that it’s colorful but not overly bright.” You can see a close-up of the painting, plus others, here in this article. And you can learn more about Georgia O’Keeffe’s extraordinary life here.

How to participate in this SIA challenge:

And there’s still time to participate!

Everyone — bloggers, non-bloggers, all genders, all ages, even pets! — is welcome to participate. Just send a pic of an outfit (selfies and flat lays are also just fine) inspired by this week’s SIA artwork to this week’s curator, Erin, at looplooks@gmail.com by tonight. Erin will then post the SIA round-up on her blog, Loop Looks, tomorrow.

My starting point was my sleeveless print blouse, which had four of the colors in the painting (green, blue, black, and white) as well as a swirly brushstroke pattern. My next idea was pairing it with my green patent leather kitten heels, since green is the most dominant color in the painting. I was going to layer my green cardigan over my top, and then that morning, I spied my white cardigan with its colorblock trim of navy and mint. Bingo!

The backdrop is the side of a building on my college campus, and I thought its muted greenish brown color, as well as the bit of lawn in front, helped add more earthy colors to the mix.

And, of course, y’all deserve a closer look at these pretty patent leather kitten heels. They have a rubber sole, so they were a good choice on a drizzly day. 🙂

Last but not least, a look at my complete outfit with my outerwear. I chose my purple-and-olive houndstooth overcoat so that I could get in the purple color from the painting. And bonus pattern-mixing! 😉

Wonderful, Jen! I think that you truly captured the color within O’Keeffe’s painting in your outfit, especially with your green.

And how creative of you to incorporate your coat to capture the bits of purple found in the painting too!

This was a really fun one to do with lots of different ways to go about it. Looking forward to the round-up tomorrow!

Thanks, Mike. It was a fun one to think about. I started out very quickly thinking about my green brushstroke top, but I always enjoy the process of mentally building an outfit in my mind. The purple-and-olive coat was a last-minute idea, and I’m glad it worked! 🙂

Your pom-poms were so cute! After the fact, I wondered if I should have put my circular brooch on my overcoat to get in the circular theme. Oh well! That’s what’s fun about these challenges, we all come up with different takes on it 🙂
