Blanket scarf inspiration

I was inspired recently by Catherine’s “How to Style a Blanket Scarf” post on her Southern Gloss blog. The overall look is a bit more boho than my usual style, but I thought it was a clever idea for how to wear a blanket scarf in a different way. Here’s how Catherine describes what she did:

Simply fold a large scarf diagonally and place it over your shoulders as you would a wrap, then belt it at your natural waist being sure to keep the back free

I thought, “I could do that!”

As you can tell from the back, my scarf is not a true blanket scarf. It’s not in the shape of a square, but instead a rectangle. If my scarf had been a square, it would be hanging in a V down the back, which would have looked more proportional. But it’s the closest thing I have to a blanket scarf, as it has similar bulk and heft.

This scarf was a parting gift from a dear colleague in Abu Dhabi. I usually keep it in my office at work, for whenever I get cold and need to wrap up in something warm. I’ve also been known to bring it with me to movie theaters for the same reason. (Surely I’m not the only one who finds movie theaters freezing?!)

Trying something new

I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone on this one, and I don’t know if it’s an entirely successful effort. My rope tassel belt is a bit too thin and disproportionate to the bulk of the scarf, and while my arms were warmer with the additional layer of the white long-sleeved tee, I think it makes the overall outfit look a bit too fussy. But I liked trying something new!

And speaking of trying something new… below is how I normally wear this scarf, casually thrown around my shoulders. This variation looks more like my usual style!

Which way do you prefer the scarf? Please leave a comment and share!
