Monthly budget adventures (October 2016)

It’s time for my monthly budget adventures! Here’s a sneak peek before I get into the details:

Put a sock in censorship

At the beginning of the month, I bought a t-shirt for my husband from one of our favorite clothing stores, Out of Print Clothing, and I took advantage of a special “Banned Books Week” special. I got this pair of “Banned Books” socks for free — I also have this print on a clutch, as seen here — and I love the tag line:  “Put a sock in censorship.” ♥

Scarf love

When Sam and I went antiques browsing downtown, as mentioned in this post, I spied a bin of vintage and retro-inspired scarves at Sanford & Son Antiques and Auctions. For only $20 total, I took 3 silk scarves home with me:  a brown-and-purple plaid rectangle scarf; a navy-white-and-green Vera scarf (which I plan on pairing with my colorblocked cardigan, seen here); and a square scarf with a print of Dutch tiles. As part of my husband’s heritage is Dutch, this scarf was too perfect to pass up! 🙂

DKNY tights

I am on the lookout for tights, as there are months ahead of tight-wearing weather, and I need to replace a few pairs and get a couple more colors in my tights collection. At Nordstrom, I stocked up on my favorite line of tights, DKNY opaque tights, in grey and brown. I love DKNY tights for several reasons:  they come in tall sizing, the opaqueness is consistent and even, the control top makes me feel secure, and the pricing is reasonable, especially considering how long they last.

White House, Black House trousers

Yesterday, I went into detail about my experience shopping for trousers at White House, Black Market. I took advantage of a massive sale on trousers they were having, taking home pairs in black and a burgundy brown tweed. Both have special button detailing!
