On the waterfront | Chambray shirt + LBD

In the midst of unpacking and conversations starting with “Where did we put … ?,” Sam and I decided we needed a break one sunny afternoon and headed for the Tacoma waterfront along the Puget Sound. There’s something so soothing to me about being by the water, and the breezes are always so refreshing.

I kept things simple (again!), as I feel like even putting on regular clothing is an accomplishment these days. A sleeveless LBD, a chambray shirt tied loosely at the waist, and striped canvas flats are all I needed for a casual summer outfit. And I put on lipstick for the first time in a few weeks! (the classic Revlon shade, “Cherries in the Snow,” FYI)

Also, can I just talk a moment about the glory of sunglasses? Seriously, putting on a pair of big sunglasses hides so much. (Under-eye circles? Can’t see ’em! No makeup? No problem! Didn’t pluck your eyebrows? No worries!) Sunglasses always look so effortlessly glamorous, as well. And it’s a bonus that these frames are vintage and from my mom — I got the prescriptions updated a few years ago — so I have a personal connection that always makes me smile whenever I put these sunglasses on. 🙂

And even though we went out in mid-afternoon (usually the worst time to take pictures, because it’s in full sun), these pictures came out great! It’s all about the setting, with the water and clouds and wooden pier. Loving summertime in Tacoma!

I’ve been thinking about doing a hair-focused post about what I do with my hair after I get out of the shower, and how my hair care has changed with my short haircut. What do you think?

My hair in this post has benefited from a few days of not-washing and dry shampoo. Viva la hair products! 😉

Love those sunglasses! You are so lucky they were able to put your ‘scrip in them. So glad you are enjoying Tacoma. If you like seafood, be sure to try Harbor Lights on Ruston Way. It is my all-time favorite old school seafood restaurant, and every time I am home I try to go. So many great memories of dinners with family and friends at that place.

What pretty pics! Moving is exhausting, so I don’t blame you for needing a break. Love this look, especially those adorable slip-on sneakers!

Sometimes simplest outfits are the cutest! The striped shoes add a lot of interest.
Washington State is one of my favorites! I lived in Seattle for a summer, and my sister lived in Seattle/Renton for several years. Having recently moved from Hawaii to Vegas, one of the things I miss the most is being close to the water …

I love so many things about this post. First off, I love that you (as you usually do) show an outfit that you actually wore somewhere, as opposed to just showing an outfit. It’s always fun to see how and where someone else lives. Also, I can so relate to your love of a a good pair of sunnies, especially when you want to show an outfit, but maybe your face is not quite “photo ready”! And the fact they belonged to your mother is just precious.

Awwwww, thanks, Gracey! I think my thin hair (it’s thin, but there’s a lot of it!) benefits from the air around the Sound! And we’re definitely spoiled for natural beauty in this part of the country… so many interesting backdrops to look forward to on the blog 😀

Simple outfits are the best, IMO. 🙂 Those photos turned out terrific! Makes me wish I could visit the Pacific Northwest again, especially in summer. My hubby and I have only ever been there in winter. Still beautiful then!
