Keeping it simple with a retro-inspired print dress

I’ve worn this retro-inspired print dress a couple of times before on the blog, as seen here and here, and each time I’ve kept it simple. This dress, which I thrifted a few years ago, has such a fun print and so many interesting details that it doesn’t need much of anything else to let it shine.

I recently wore this dress to a farewell open house my colleagues held on campus, so friends and colleagues had the opportunity to come and go and share stories. It was a more informal event, with people stopping by to chat. One colleague took the opportunity to ask me about where I developed my sense of style, and that she would miss getting to see what I was wearing every day. So sweet!

This is also the final work outfit I will showcase for this academic year. That means three months of casual outfits coming up!

I paired the dress this time with a teal tank top (you can barely see it in these pics, but it’s there), topaz drop earrings, and metallic sandals. The retro-inspired details on the dress include the cut-outs and fabric knots on the sleeves, as seen in the closeup above.

It’s also a dress made for twirling! (Although this was an accidental shot, from when a gust of wind had its fun with my cotton dress.)

And if you’re wondering what this backdrop is below, it’s the pod we loaded most of our furniture and boxes in, to clear out the house in preparation for selling it. Why not use it for a photo opportunity? 😉

Oh I love this dress! It is perfect. I really like the little touch of teal peaking out, too. Such a great color combination! I love the pod shots, too. I once used a port-o-potty as a backdrop for photos…at my wedding reception…mostly because it was just funny!

Thanks, Sydney! I kept getting asked if the belt had come with the dress. (And no, it didn’t. The belt comes with a thin piece of fabric the same print as the dress, but I’ve never worn it with the dress. I always think it looks too thin.)
