SIA interpretation: The Roses of Heliogabalus

It’s time for another Style Imitating Art (SIA) interpretation! Last week, Salazar @ 14 Shades of Grey picked the classic 1888 painting “The Roses of Heliogabalus” by Sir Lawerence Alma-Tadema (1836–1912). There’s more information about the painting, and what it symbolizes, here. The subject matter is really interesting — the painting actually shows the banquet guests being smothered to death in rose petals!

There’s still time to participate in this SIA challenge! Just take a pic of an outfit inspired by this week’s art choice — flat lays and selfies are also ok — to Salazar at Deadline is this Monday, June 13, and Salazar will then post the round-up on her blog, 14 Shades of Grey.

When I was packing up most of my wardrobe, as detailed here in this post, I made sure to leave out something pink, just in case pink turned out to be a major color in an upcoming SIA challenge. My planning worked out! 😀

I kept out this pink-and-white patterned dress, which I thought was a perfect starting point for this particular style challenge. I added my turquoise cardigan because of the blue skies in the painting, and gold-and-cream sandals to tie in with the Roman scene.

My good friend and fellow librarian Stephanie took photos for me, and as luck would have it, we spied some bushes with bright pink flowers — a perfect backdrop!

I felt super bright and confident and pretty wearing this outfit, which I wore during my last week at work. It was an unexpected combination, color-wise, and I don’t think I would have thought about pairing these colors together if it weren’t for this style challenge. Three cheers for SIA inspiration!

Love this fresh & bright interpretation, especially love these colors together in your outfit! The beautiful azalea shrub as a backdrop makes it perfect. 🙂
