Monthly budget adventures (May 2016) | Month 1 of the ‘Let’s Be Shop Free for 3’ challenge

Once again, I’ve spent ZERO DOLLARS on clothes this past month — and this time, by choice and with intent! At the beginning of the month, I joined the “Let’s Be Shop Free for 3” challenge and Facebook group. The “3” in this stance stands for three months, so it’s a challenge to be shop free (regarding clothes shopping) from May through July. The group and challenge is organized by Carrie @ A Lovely Little Wardrobe.

As y’all now know I’m in the midst of moving and packing for our move to Tacoma, it’s been (surprisingly?) pretty easy to stick to this challenge. There’s been no time to shop and no inclination to add to the packing! I also have appreciated the openness fellow bloggers have been with their experiences, sharing their thoughts about shopping and their own personal motivations or reasons for shopping urges.

While packing up my clothes and shoes, I also took the opportunity to reevaluate some items. I’ll be back with more details about the bags of clothing items I will be donating shortly.

Budget Recap:

Total spent for this month: $0
Total savings for this month:  $0

Total spent for this year:  $82.47
Total savings for this year:  $377.98

Let’s see how I do for the challenge next month!

I’m in that group, too! I’m not doing a strict no spend, but I really like the thoughtfulness and support of the group as I try to more purposeful about my shopping. 🙂

I did a 1 year no buy (not 100% strict, but there were rules) and it has really changed my shopping habits – as I think for me it was a habit. I still love clothes, but the desire to shop and have something new all the time has lessened a lot. I think it was one of the best exercises I’ve ever done. 😀

Also good luck with the move. I’m in that same boat myself and it’s a great incentive not to buy anything.

I’m super out of the loop for the past 2 months, so I’m very excited to follow the three months of no shopping. These types of posts always inspire me to try and accomplish a version of no shopping that works for me. I actually need to just crack down on myself.

I like your perspective on that, to “accomplish a version of no shopping that works for me.” It’s different for everyone, as are our motivations for shopping! I guess for me, having to pack everything up is a STRONG motivation to cool it on the shopping front 😉
