SIA: Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose

It’s time for another Style Imitating Art (SIA) challenge! For this week’s challenge, Salazar from 14 Shades of Grey chose the 1885 oil painting Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose by John Singer Sargent. Salazar chose it for its simple, classic prettiness and floral motif for the spring season. You can read more about the painting here.

It is a lovely painting, and my favorite details are the paper lanterns. You could go with a floral pattern, or choose one or more of the colors of dark green, white, soft pink, and coral.

So how do you participate in SIA challenges? All are welcome, bloggers and non-bloggers alike. Just take a picture of an outfit inspired by this week’s inspiration artwork — selfies and flat lays are also okay — and send your pics to Salazar at, who will post the round-up on her blog 14 Shades of Grey. Deadline is next Monday, May 2.

Agreed. It really helps expand our horizons I think. There are many artists that I have never heard of (including this one) so I think these challenges are a great way to learn about different art forms and the artists that create them. 🙂
