SIA interpretation: Leap Year Frog

If you haven’t already, please vote for your favorite outfit of mine from February. Thanks in advance!

Onto my Style Imitating Art (SIA) interpretation:  Last week’s curator was Erin from Loop Looks, our new SIA co-host! Since Erin’s first SIA choice fell on Feb. 29, Leap Day, she picked something that connected with the event. Erin found this oil painting by Delilah Smith, a Michigan-based artist, titled Leap Year Frog.

My starting point was my bright green camp shirt — and I got quite a few nice comments about this top on the day I wore this outfit, that I had brought in a bit of spring to our grey, late winter days! I brought in the red from the painting with my red lipstick. I also wanted to bring in some quirky details, to reflect the quirky feeling of the painting. Hence my black-and-white skirt with the oddly shaped polka dots (they have been described as “popcorn balls” and “crumpled-up tissues” and “abstract hearts” — and now perhaps “frog prints”? 😉 see a closeup of the print here in this post). And it’s why I decided to tie my shirt instead of tucking it in.

I chose jet earrings and a statement necklace — they’re not a set but they go well together — because of their teardrop shapes, which kind of reminded me of the olive shapes in the painting. Details, details! 😉

And yes, I stretched out for a couple of pics to mimic the frog’s pose in the cocktail glass. Sam liked the pic below because the angle of it made me look “tipsy” like the frog in the painting! LOL! 😀

So there is still time to participate in SIA, and all are welcome to join in, bloggers and non-bloggers! Just send a pic of an outfit inspired by this week’s artwork to this week’s curator, Erin at looplooks@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is today, March 7, and Erin will post the round-up on her blog, Loop Looks, tomorrow.
