Four ways to remix a square scarf

When I was putting yesterday’s post together, I was inspired to look through my archives for other ways I’ve worn my vintage polka-dotted square scarf. I’ve had this scarf my entire life — I used to dress up my dolls in it!

This polka-dotted square scarf is one of my smaller scarves, measuring at 20 inches square. A smaller square scarf can be so versatile! To make it longer, I usually make a triangle out of the scarf, then roll up one side until it’s like a long rectangle and long enough to wrap around my hair or neck.

Here are four different ways I’ve worn this vintage square scarf:

Head wrap:

I had a lot of fun dressing up as Rosie the Riveter this past Halloween, and one of the essential details was the head scarf. I wrapped the long ends of the scarf around the front of my head, then tucked the end of the triangle into the tied ends of the knot.

Headband:

This is one of the most common ways I wear a square scarf, which are less bulky and therefore ideal to use as headbands. I especially like to wear scarves as headbands when I have shorter hair. I feel like they have more impact with shorter hair.

Ponytail wrap:

I often utilized this trick when I had longer hair, as it’s such an easy way to dress up a ponytail.

Neck scarf:

A classic way to remix a square scarf! This is how I wore this scarf in yesterday’s post, as well. Tying the ends of the scarf in a square knot works particularly well when worn around the neck.

My polka-dotted scarf is vintage, but here are some similar square scarves:

Do you like to wear scarves? I was never really comfortable wearing scarves until I lived overseas, and now I can’t imagine not remixing scarves in different ways. They can add so much to a simple outfit!

I need to remember that tip about using it as a pony tail wrap. I don’t have any square scarves right now but that seems like the kind of gift I’d get from my mother-in-law so I should keep some ideas on the back-burner 🙂
