SIA interpretation: Nocturne in Black and Gold – The Falling Rocket

If you haven’t already, I’d appreciate it if you’d take a minute to vote for your favorite outfit of mine from last month. Thanks in advance!

It’s time for another Style Imitating Art (SIA) interpretation! This week, Salazar chose the c. 1875 painting “Nocturne in Black and Gold: The Falling Rocket” by James Abbott McNeill Whistler.

Participating in SIA challenges is pretty easy, and there’s still time to participate! Wear something inspired by this week’s artwork, and send a pic to this week’s curator, Salazar at 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com, by tonight. Salazar will post the round-up the next morning on her blog, 14 Shades of Grey. Everyone is welcome to participate!

This outfit came to me pretty quickly. The colors of teal and black, along with the bit of grey in the skinny belt, reflect the colors in the painting. I knew gold jewelry had to be the way to go, to echo the fireworks in the painting. At first, I thought of wearing my long gold bar pendant, but then I spied my gold rope brooch, and I knew that was the one. The shape reminded me of spinwheel fireworks, and the rope tied into the nautical setting of the painting.

I work this outfit to a teaching day at work, a day that also had a couple of meetings, so I wanted to look polished. I think the brooch definitely helped elevate this pretty simple outfit.

My friend Stephanie and I took SIA pictures for each other, and even though the outtake below is a bit blurry, I liked the happy facial expression she caught. We have a lot of fun taking pics for each other! 😀

This is a great interpretation for this week’s SIA Jen! Love the teal/black combo; a perfect match to this painting!

Oh no, it was perfect Jen! it was a great match for this SIA. And this painting was perfect because there were so many different ways to go about it. That’s what makes this fun! We all see something a little different. 🙂
