Fox sweater + animal print scarf

I wore this outfit, sans scarf, for a casual Friday at work recently, and my friend Stephanie and I agreed that a little neck scarf would be a perfect finishing touch. I also feel I need a little extra color up top when I wear this sweater since the color of this fox sweater is so close to my natural skin tone. (I also did this the first time I wore this sweater, layering it over a black button-down.)

Therefore, I rewore the outfit for an afternoon lunch date with Sam that weekend, trying out my animal print scarf with the ensemble.

In the end, I came to the conclusion that while I still like the idea of adding a scarf with this sweater, this particular scarf is NOT the right choice. It just looks too long and disproportionate to me in these photos. I even tried out flipping one of the scarf ends over my shoulder. But still a no go for me.

I think a smaller, square scarf (in solid black?) would do the trick, as it would be less bulky, and the ends wouldn’t hang down to detract from Ferdy the fox. So I’ve added a smaller, square scarf — maybe in basic black? — to my shopping list.

And in the meantime, here’s an outfit that didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped it would, but it serves as a good example of trying new things and making mistakes along one’s personal style journey.

Details:

We took pics in the Alphabet District in NW Portland, along a curved stone wall, before walking down the hill to enjoy a lunch date at Dick’s Kitchen (awesome burgers, highly recommended), followed by a movie (Brooklyn, which is Oscar-nominated and a lovely film, also highly recommended).

Before eating, I employed a trick I always do when I have a scarf on and am about to eat — I simply turn the scarf around so the ends hang down the back (and not into my food). I get to enjoy my scarf AND eat my cake! 😉

And last but not least, if you’re a longtime reader, you probably are familiar with Gertie, my owl sweater. When I got this fox sweater in December, I wondered what its name would turn out to be. My blogger friend Erin @ Loop Looks suggested Fonzie, which I liked, and that led me to “Freddy” and then, ultimately, “Ferdy,” which just felt right. And Ferdy is most definitely a he, while Gertie is most definitely a she. I hope they can be friends! 😉
