Feeling bold in houndstooth and red lips

Like I said in Friday’s post, I feel like I’m gravitating toward a “bold brows and lipstick” look, and “bold” is definitely the word to describe today’s outfit and how I felt wearing it:

My new navy-and-black houndstooth dress from eShakti is just stunning, isn’t it? The central panel of the houndstooth print is designed to be slimming — like an illusion dress — and I love the envelope detail on the shoulders. (And it has bra straps, so no worries for the boatneck style.) The material is ponte knit — every woman’s best friend, in my opinion, as it just skims over the body — so this dress is very comfortable to wear. This is the kind of dress that does all the work for you. So I kept things simple with black tights and ankle booties to let the bold houndstooth print take center stage (along with my bold red lips 😉 ).

I felt GREAT in this outfit, and it was gratifying to receive a ton of compliments on my new dress the first day I wore it to work last week — even from students! My friend Stephanie paid me a lovely compliment, that not every person could pull off this dress, but I can. My husband Sam said it’s because I project confidence in wearing it, and I definitely FELT confident wearing this dress. Confidence begets confidence, methinks.

You look fantastic Jen!I love that pattern! It reminds me of M.C. Escher’s work, “Sky and Water” with the tessellating pattern. Very cool. And of course, I love the colors. Navy blue, black and white; my kind of colors! 🙂

Oooh, so lucky! I love Escher’s work. The closest I came to seeing his original drawings was a few years ago when they displayed some of them at our museum for a short time. 🙂
