A new lipstick era

I feel I am entering a new era for wearing lipstick. I am even more confident in my smile, now that I’ve finished my Invisalign clear braces, and I have noticed paying more attention to lipstick-focused blog posts, like “Guide to Perfect Holiday Red Lips” at Northwest Blonde and “The 3 Red Lipsticks” on The Daily Lace. I even posted a question on my Facebook page at the end of December, asking for suggestions for a true red lipstick shade.

Last month, I shared that I had bought a new lipstick to celebrate finishing my Invisalign braces, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in “Cherry Blossom.” It’s a beautiful deep pink shade, and the I have found the “Super Lustrous” line has a smooth texture and is quite long-lasting.

I only began wearing red lipstick a couple of years ago, as I wrote about in my “Red Lips” post, starting with Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Lip Color in “Cherry on Top.” The color is fantastic, and I’ve worn it many times, but the downside is that the Megalast Liquid Lip Color line can be quite drying to the lips — and you can’t mess up, because once it’s on, it is ON. Here’s how the Megalast Liquid lipstick in “Cherry on Top” looks:

Therefore, I have been on the hunt for a true red lipstick — a regular lipstick, not a liquid lip color — and to that end, I have recently added three new lip products:  two new red lipstick shades and a red lip liner, as seen below (from left to right):

  • L’Oreal Infallible Le Rouge 10 hr Lip Colour in “Refined Ruby
  • Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color in “Stoplight Red
  • L’Oreal Colour Riche Lip Liner in “Always Red

I get a crisper line when I use the lip liner. I have also read about the benefits of lip primer, so I will have to try that, too, down the line.

Here’s how my new L’Oreal Infallible “Refined Ruby” lipstick looks. It looked darker red to me in the tube, but it comes out a true red when I put it on, as seen below. For me, a “true red” lipstick has that blue undertone that looks better on my pale skin tone. Orange-y red lipstick does not flatter my skin tone, but my issue seems to be to find a red lipstick that doesn’t turn out to be too pink.

As the new year gets underway, I feel like my makeup routine is becoming all about “bold brows and lipstick,” thanks to my ‘Billion Dollars Brows’ brow kits review and my new lipsticks.

True, that is a downside of lipstick. (Except for the Wet n Wild Megalist Liquid lip color — that STICKS when it is on and does NOT come off, but is also why it’s so drying on the lips.) I think it’s funny that I’ve totally done a 180 on lipstick, going from a post three years ago about how I didn’t like lipstick (which is why I liked lip stains) to how I am now on the hunt for bold lipstick colors! 😀

I’ve seriously considered getting the invisalign braces, cut not sure I can afford them yet. I really like the colors you picked for your lipsticks…I’m a big fan of lipsticks, since my pale lips sort of get “lost” if I don’t wear lipstick. Thanks for a great post!

Thanks, Ginger! I was able to pay up front for the Invisalign, with help from my mom, and I can say it was totally worth it. It really has helped my self-confidence, even though I was already a “smiley blogger” before I went with Invisalign. It’s just made it all the sweeter! 😀
