SIA interpretation: Sunrise by Georgia O’Keeffe

Time for my Style Imitating Art (SIA) interpretation! It was my turn again to curate SIA, and I wanted a bright and glorious painting, 1916’s “Sunrise,” by Georgia O’Keeffe, a famous American female artist (1887-1986). You can view a timeline of O’Keeffe’s works here and find out more about her life and works on the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum site.

There is still time to participate in this SIA challenge! Bloggers and non-bloggers are welcome — just send a pic of an outfit inspired by this week’s SIA inspiration pic to me at librarianforlifestyle@gmail.com by tonight, Monday, January 11, by 10 p.m. PST, and I will post the round-up on my blog tomorrow morning.

I chose the “Sunrise” painting for its symbolism of a sunrise starting off a new year. The bright colors also called to me, and I knew that I had to start with my starburst-patterned yellow cardigan. (The sun is a star, of course! 😉 )My pink blouse and burgundy pencil skirt quickly followed. The finishing touch was my new red lipstick.

I wore this cheery outfit to work during our first week back of Winter term — a shorter week than expected because of a winter storm of snow and freezing rain that shut down the city for a few days.

And of course there is subtle pattern-mixing in this outfit:  the starbursts of my cardigan and the chevrons of my burgundy tights. Three cheers for pattern-mixing!

A great way to balance your colors for a complete look Jen! I think that we often feel that darker colors sort of help “anchor” brighter colors so that they don’t look top heavy. 🙂

Gorgeous Jen! I love the yellow and pink together and I especially love the tiny print on your cardigan..
