2015 recap: Favorite purchases

Continuing in my series this week of highlighting favorites from 2015! (And thanks in advance for voting for your favorite outfit of mine from December.)

I have been doing monthly budget posts for a few years now, but I have rarely been reflective beyond a particular month. So I thought I’d go back through my monthly budget adventures posts and round up my favorite purchases from 2015, one favorite per month. I defined “favorite” in different ways, as you’ll see below. I love how many of my favorites throughout the year were either thrifted or fashion-swapped!

January 2015:  Thrifted black jacket

My favorite item from January was the black canvas moto-style jacket I thrifted from one of my favorite local resale boutiques, Here We Go Again. It was a real find, as the label is St. John, which is quite a high-end brand! I haven’t featured this jacket that much on the blog, but I’ve worn it more times in real life.

February 2015:  Grey jeans

My favorite from February is this pair of light grey jeans. I have worn these fabulous pair of jeans (Jones New York via Macy’s) soooooooo many times, both on the weekends and for more casual work outfits. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

March 2015:  Crystal drop earrings

Back in March, I bought another pair of drop earrings by Clara Beau Jewelry from a local boutique, and they are so versatile. The crystal is big enough to be noticed without being too big, and the clear crystal and silver just go with so many things. I want to keep adding to my collection of this style of earrings.

April 2015:  Vintage wicker bag

This is my second vintage wicker bag, bought at a local vintage thrift shop, and this became one of my go-to bags for summer. I need to repair the lining and part of the stitching in the handle, but the shape is so unusual and the size is perfect.

May 2015:  Dark denim jacket

I had been on the lookout for a dark denim jacket for ages (I have a light denim jacket that’s an MVP in my closet, and I wanted a dark denim one for more versatility), and back in May, I found what I was looking for with this Tommy Hilfiger denim jacket. My husband even made a special trip to get me the last one available in my size in the area — it was worth it, sweetie!

June 2015:  Gingham shorts

Being on the taller side, Bermuda-style shorts are a more flattering style for me. I scooped up this black gingham pair with a Kohl’s gift card back in June, and I wore them at least once a week over the summer. I’m looking forward to more summers with this pair of shorts!

July 2015:  Black striped tee

I have added quite a few striped items to my wardrobe this past year — stripes are so classic! I’ve worn this black striped tee quite often since its purchase. I find the square neckline a bit unusual and the elbow-length sleeves versatile for multiple seasons.

August 2015:  Birthday dress

I didn’t actually purchase anything in August — everything I got was gifted, due to August being my birthday month — and my favorite was this beautiful Maggy London dress in a vivid pink and purple and orange print. My mom bought this dress for me for my birthday, while we went thrifting together during her summer trip to Portland. I’m itching to remix this dress for winter…

September 2015:  Black knit skirt

From a print dress to a neutral staple — my favorite for September was a retro-style, black knit skirt from eShakti. I’ve also worn this skirt several times already.

October 2015:  Grey suede booties

It will come as no surprise to y’all that my new grey suede-and-leather booties were a favorite. I even wrote an entire post about how special these booties were and how they connected to a treasured childhood memory.

November 2015:  Long green cardigan sweater

My favorite for November was a fashion-swapped item — a long green cardigan sweater from Patagonia. Soooooooo cozy and warm! I don’t have all that much green in my wardrobe, but I have found olive quite a versatile color. I am glad to have another olive green item in my closet.

December 2015:  Red-striped long-sleeved tee

The photo above also reveals another favorite — my new red-striped top from J.Crew Factory! I’ve been on the lookout for a red-striped tee for awhile now (it’s harder than I thought it would be to find a TRUE red!), and I literally squealed and clapped in joy when I found this one in December. It also joins other similarly striped tees from J.Crew in light pink and grey. What color should I add next to my striped tee collection? 😉
