And a happy new year for Style Imitating Art (SIA) challenges! We took a brief holiday break for Christmas and New Year’s, but SIA is back! (You can also catch up on all my 2015 SIA-inspired outfits here in this SIA retrospective post.)
It’s my turn again to curate SIA, and I wanted something really bright and glorious to start the new year off right. I chose an early painting from Georgia O’Keeffe, a famous — and controversial — American female artist (1887-1986).
This painting, called “Sunrise,” is from 1916. I picked it not only for its vibrant colors of pink and red and yellow but also because it’s not what one normally associates with a Georgia O’Keeffe painting (e.g. closeups of flowers or desert landscapes). I also chose it for the symbolism of a sunrise starting off the new year.
You can view a timeline of O’Keeffe’s works here and find out more about her life and works on the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum site. There are also art prints of her more famous works in colors similar to her inspiration painting, like here and here.
So how do you participate in SIA challenges? Bloggers and non-bloggers are welcome to participate. Just send a pic of an outfit inspired by this week’s SIA inspiration pic to me at email@example.com by next Monday, January 11, by 10 p.m. PST, and I will post the round-up on my blog the next morning.
