SIA interpretation: Freedom from Want

It’s time again for another Style Imitating Art (SIA) interpretation! This week, Jess @ Animated Cardigan chose a classic 1942 Norman Rockwell painting, “Freedom from Want,” which was published as the cover of The Saturday Evening Post in March 1943.

There’s still time to participate in SIA! Bloggers and non-bloggers are welcome to participate. Just send a picture of an outfit inspired by this week’s SIA inspiration to this week’s curator, Jess at animatedcardigan@gmail.com by tonight. Jess will then post the round-up on her blog, Animated Cardigan.

When I saw the patterns of the wallpaper and the older woman’s dress, I immediately thought about my black-and-white blouse that has a small floral pattern with small bits of blue in the petals. The starting point was that print, which feels sweet and a bit old-fashioned, in the best sense. I’ve also worn this sheer blouse here and here.

I went for a slightly retro-inspired feeling for the rest of the outfit, with my full, belted skirt and Mary Jane heels.

I plan on wearing this outfit to work this week, and a grey cardigan makes it more work-appropriate. (I will also probably add a black cami bra underneath, as well, for work, but for these photos, I didn’t want to detract from the top’s striking neckline.)

This is a great interpretation Jen! Your blouse matches the woman’s dress perfectly! Also, love the gray and black tones for a good solid look. 🙂

The print on your blouse is perfect! And I love your shoes too. Just hope you didn’t freeze taking these photos, it looks cold!
