Time for my Style Imitating Art (SIA) interpretation! For this week’s SIA challenge, Jess @ Animated Cardigan chose a bold, vibrant piece of art titled “Leopard I” by artist Megan Carn, who is based in Columbia, South Carolina.
My outfit came together quickly. I instantly thought my animal print pencil skirt would be perfect for the challenge, and then I added my light blue cardigan and a navy tee.
Details:
- Animal print pencil skirt, Target, thrifted {very similar} {very similar in scuba fabric} {similar style and print in red}
- Light blue cardigan, Gap, very old {similar} {similar cardigan with short sleeves}
- Navy tee, Nordstrom Rack, old {very similar}
- Neutral flats, Payless, old {similar} {similar}
- Gold hoops, old {similar}
- Red lipstick, Wet ‘n’ Wild MegaLast liquid lip color in “Cherry on Top” {exact}
I pulled in the red of the inspiration painting with red lipstick. I chose simple gold hoops as a classic, finishing touch.
Gotta admit, I felt pretty great in this SIA outfit, comfortable and put-together. I NEVER would have thought to pair my light blue cardigan with this skirt, but I really liked the effect when it all came together. The colors in the animal print are a little different and unexpected to begin with, and the light blue really popped against it. Totally fit my “comfy + classic with a bit of quirk” style outlook.
So there is still time to participate in SIA! Just send a pic of an outfit inspired by this week’s SIA choice to Jess at animatedcardigan [at] gmail.com by tonight, October 19. Jess will post the SIA round-up shortly after on her blog, Animated Cardigan.

Wow! I never would have thought to put the light blue cardigan with that skirt, either, but I really like it. I wonder how my light blue cardigan would look with my traditionally-colored leopard print skirt.
Inspiration challenges are the best! And I totally thought you would wear your leopard skirt for the challenge and that we would look alike! 🙂
love that skirt (I have a similar thrifted one!)

Thanks Patti! Hooray for thrifted leopard print skirts! 🙂
Ooh, this is about as perfect as it can get! I love your touches of red and gold too!
Awwwww, that is a very nice compliment, thank you Salazar! 🙂

Thanks Darcy! I have slowly built up leopard print in my wardrobe — it’s more versatile than I had originally thought!
What a fun idea, and I love that it made you try a combination you wouldn’t ordinarily. I think it turned out to be such a pretty combo, the leopard print with the mint-colored cardigan!
Thanks so much, Shea! Yes, that is the best thing about style challenges, trying new things! 🙂
Red lips! YESSSSSS. I love the cardigan with the skirt! That’s a great pairing 🙂
Heeeeee, thanks! Definitely a fun challenge! 🙂
I love how you emulated the colors in the leopard instead of the red and teal. Very clever!
Thanks! My starting point was the leopard print skirt, which felt so close in color to the inspiration painting. 🙂
What a neat idea! And I love your animal print skirt. I’m wearing an animal print scarf in my Monday Mingle post.
