Canvas tote bag collection

As summer winds down for some of you — I’ve still got a month of summer to go up here in the Pacific Northwest! 🙂 — I’ve been thinking about my canvas tote bag collection. Why? Because a canvas tote has turned out to be one of my go-to bags for summer the last few years.

I didn’t start out consciously deciding, “Yes, a canvas tote bag will be my go-to bag for the summer season” — it just naturally happened. My collection of canvas tote bags has grown the past few years. Why? I find them quite durable, easy to wash and clean. They also feel lighter and more seasonally appropriate than my heavier leather tote bags that I use in winter. And I also tend to dress more simply in the summer, so a fun, printed tote bag can be an easy way to add some pattern and color.

Here is my current collection of canvas tote bags, in all their quirky, novelty print glory! 😉

And below are close-ups and different summer outfits I’ve paired each tote bag with. I use these tote bags much more often than they appear on the blog. That’s because I don’t always pose for pics with my bag or purse. Sometimes, it can feel awkward, and you would be seeing the same bags over and over again.

My mom gave me these two colorful tote bags, which I think were both freebies received with other purchases. She still marvels at how much use I’ve gotten out of that yellow canvas bag! It’s the perfect size — not too big, not too small. The striped tote bag also came with a smaller bag, which I now use at work to carry my essentials (chapstick, phone, pen, work keys, etc.) around to different places I go on a daily basis.

My mom also gifted me the black dotted tote you see on the left, above. It also came with matching flip flops (which I do wear, but I don’t think they’ve made it to the blog). The pattern-mixing tote bag in brown and blue I bought years ago, back on a 2007 trip to Chicago. The handles are made of seat-belt material, and the fabric is super thick and sturdy.

I couldn’t resist pairing up the bird and cat prints! 😉 My husband snagged this adorable bird print tote last year at a conference, and I received the cat print tote as part of the gift bag from my first blogger party.

I haven’t gotten any pics of me with the cat print tote, but I have used it. Looking back over pics with the bird print tote bag, I realized that it also seems to be my go-to bag for browsing bookstores!

These clever and colorful tote bags from Out of Print Clothing are so sturdy — and quite large in size! The tote bag on the left is a recent purchase, as seen here, and it features Nancy Drew on the front side, and Nancy with her friends Bess and George on the back side. The tote bag on the right has 500 (yep, I counted them!) ladies in dresses for a cheeky play on the classic book Little Women.

I used to love using canvas bags during the summer months too! I had one from Austria which my band were gifted when we went on tour to Salzburg that said Berchesgartner land which I used exhaustively for years until it got manky- it’s now my peg bag! My favourite ones nowadays are my ‘I love [heart symbol] Mr Darcy’ (bought from the Jane Austen centre) and one with a patchwork owl appliqued which my friend Margaret gave me for Christmas!
    Love your Book-themed ones!x
