SIA: Air France

Happy times are here again… I’m back with another Style Imitating Art (SIA) challenge again! This pick was inspired by an old calendar I have of classic René Gruau fashion illustrations (here’s a small gallery of his works and here’s a Pinterest search for his name). I could look at Gruau’s works all day — so classic, so beautiful, so full of attitude! René Gruau (1909-2004) was born of an Italian father and a French mother — both aristocrats — and began his career as a fashion illustrator in the 1920s. He and his bold artistic style continue to be hugely influential!

I had dozens of items pinned but eventually chose a 1960s poster that Gruau did for Air France, and below is the “Cote d’Azur” version. You can also see a more vibrantly colored version of this poster, with English-language “French Riviera” lettering, on this site. Bright, bold colors and a subject matter that felt perfect as we enjoy the last month of summer!

So how do you participate in SIA? It’s pretty easy — and bloggers and non-bloggers are both welcome to participate! Just send a pic of an outfit inspired by this week’s SIA choice to me at librarianforlifestyle [at] gmailcom by next Monday, August 24, by 10 p.m. PST. I’ll post the SIA round-up the next morning.

Can’t wait to see what y’all come up with! 😀
