SIA: Cat on a Chair

That’s right, it’s time for the next SIA (Style Imitating Art) challenge! We are continuing with an animal theme… Salazar @ 14 Shades of Grey chose “Cat on a Chair”, a 1880 painting by the famous French printmaker Theophile Steinlen. He’s probably best known for his cat paintings and poster for Le Chat Noir — which I also have a print of in our house! Salazar picked this lesser-known work because the cat in the painting looks exactly like her own cat.

More info about the painting here on the Roubaix La Piscine museum site. (Heads up, it’s in French, so you might need a translator plug-in.) You can also browse multiple galleries of Steinlein’s works here.

I know the cat theme and neutral color scheme are right up Salazar’s alley. I love how the cat in this painting looks like he/she has just been woken up from a cat nap (har har) and is saying something like, “Yessssssss? This better be good, because I was sleeping.”

So no pressure, y’all. 😉

So how do you participate in SIA? It’s open to all, bloggers and non-bloggers, women and men. To participate, send a photo of an outfit inspired by this week’s SIA choice, and send it to the challenge curator, which this week is Salazar at 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com. Deadline is next Monday, June 29, and she will post the round-up on her blog shortly after.
