Mixing bohemian + preppy

Last week, I donned the pretty red dress my husband recently bought me during a mini-break over the Memorial Day weekend, as seen here in my monthly budget post. He was drawn by the print and the cut of the dress. He’s got good taste, doesn’t he? 🙂

I went with a no-fail outfit formula:  pairing a fit-and-flare print dress with a denim jacket. I realized that I was not only mixing patterns (the print of the dress and the dotted print of the canvas flats), I was also mixing styles. The lotus print of the dress and the shape of the earrings are a bit bohemian, while the dark denim jacket and canvas flats are a bit preppy.

Thanks! You really can’t go wrong with a denim jacket and dress, right? And I like that the red of this dress is more of a tomato-red. And that the lotus print is a tan color rather than white. Makes it just a bit more interesting 🙂
