Going Dutch in a casual work outfit

My college’s spring term is winding down — I’m so, so ready for the summer break (my faculty library contract is for 9 months) — so I felt comfortable in breaking out this casual work look. For me, the navy ankle pants are what help elevate this combination to a more work-appropriate level. (It’s kind of hard to tell in the pics that I’m wearing ankle pants, but trust me, they are ankle pants and not jeans.)

Early in the morning during my Reference Desk shift, a work colleague came up and started speaking French to me. (This is not a regular thing — I don’t know how to speak French.) I must have looked confused, as he then explained that he thought I looked “very French” today, with my striped boatneck top and head scarf. I could totally see it! And then I replied, “Yes, but my scarf is blue and orange — so I call this my Dutch scarf!” 🙂 (Also, part of my husband’s heritage is Dutch!)

Details:  Grey striped boatneck tee, J. Crew {exact style in different colors, including a dark grey}  //  Navy ankle pants, Macy’s, old {very similar}  //  Pewter strappy sandals, Target {very similar}  //  Scarf, thrifted {similar}  //  Pearl drop earrings, bridesmaid’s gift, old {similar}

As it reached 80 degrees that day, I broke out the strappy sandals! I chose my pewter ones to play off the grey striped top. And of course, my blue toenails tie into my navy ankle pants — and the blue in my scarf! 😀

      Yes, it was pretty funny! And it was early in the morning, so when he started speaking French, my brain went blank, like “Oh no, it’s so early and I’m so tired that I’m not understanding what people are saying now.” LOL! 😀
