Remixing a favorite outfit with different accessories

Today’s outfit still (kind of) continues the week-long SIA theme. It’s blue and white, at least (my reddish lipstick wore off by the time we took these pics!).

Also, today’s outfit might seem like déjà vu… because you’ve seen the basic outfit not all that long ago. Like I’ve said before, I’m not averse to remixing items and combinations I feel really work well together.  I also thought it would be a fun exercise to take the same core outfit and remix it with different accessories.

So I started with the blue-and-white outfit you saw here in this post, including the same royal blue cardigan, sleeveless cream blouse, and navy ankle pants. Last time, I  wore striped, round-toe wedges for a bit of quirky edge and pattern.

For the subtle remix this time around, I wanted accessories for a more classic look. To that end, I wore peep-toe, tortoiseshell wedges, my new pearl cluster long necklace — a recent gift from my husband, and my cobalt Greg Michaels tote bag. For a final touch, I tied my thrifted Oscar de la Renta scarf around the bag.

Details:  Blue cardigan, August Silk {exact style and brand}  //  Sleeveless blouse, Dana Buchman for Kohl’s {exact style in different colors and patterns}  //  Navy ankle pants, Macy’s {very similar}  //  Tortoiseshell patent leather wedges, Payless {very similar}  //  Blue tote bag, c/o Greg Michaels {exact}  //  Oscar de la Renta scarf, thrifted {navy-and-gold-metallic scarf option}  //  Pearl cluster necklace, ModCloth, recent gift from husband {exact} {very similar}  //  Pearl-and-gold small hoop earrings, old {very similar}

And yes, I picked these peep-toe wedges because my royal blue toenails matched my outfit! 🙂

I wore this outfit to co-present a program at a regional library conference. Because I knew this prior combination worked well and was comfortable, I wanted that personal comfort level again so I could then focus on the program and my colleagues. (The program went really well, by the way! And I got more than one compliment on my new necklace!)

UPDATE:  Just as I was reviewing this post, I realized that I had remixed pieces of this SAME outfit last summer, also for a work-related presentation. And the remix I wore earlier this year, the variation with the striped wedges, was for an important presentation at work. So OBVIOUSLY this outfit, and variations of it, are my go-to pieces for whenever I need to feel both comfortable and professional!

    This is a lovely outfit! I like seeing familiar items or combinations- i think if you’ve got an extensive wardrobe like you (and I!) have, then it is nice to return to combinations that work well!

      Thanks, Alice! I agree, knowing what works can really help self-confidence. I tend to go for pants or trousers when I have a big meeting or presentation — I just feel more confident and professional in them. I think it’s because I’m taller, and when I’m wearing pants or trousers, I don’t want to have to worry or think about if a skirt is riding up or too short. To each her own!

    Your latest incarnation of this outfit is my favorite, I think. Something about the long necklace and the wedge peep toes just makes you look even longer and leaner (your favorite combo, I know!)
