SIA: Snowdrops inspiration

It was my turn again to curate the SIA (Style Imitating Art) challenge, and my choice this week was inspired by the TV series Outlander. This watercolor, “Snowdrops,” is by Scottish painter and illustrator Katherine Cameron (1874-1965) and dates from the late1800s/early 1900s. There are more examples of her works here, here, and here.

There is still time to participate in SIA, for both bloggers and non-bloggers — just send me a photo of your outfit inspired by this SIA pick by tonight, April 20, 10 p.m. PST. My email address is librarianforlifestyle@gmail.com. I will be posting the SIA round-up tomorrow.

I had lots of ideas for outfits inspired by this watercolor, but this was the first outfit that came to mind. I started with my “Top 10” pick from Sarah’s Real Life style challenge — the scarf — which picked out the brightest colors in the watercolor. I then added more neutral tones of grey and brown to provide a softness to the outfit foundation, and I also incorporated the dark purple of the far-off mountains with my skinny belt.

The final touches were my pearl cluster earrings — echoing the snowdrop flowers, yes? — and my amber-and-vines bracelet. (Fun fact:  The second book in the Outlander series is titled Dragonfly in Amber… 😉 )

By the way, if you’re thinking you haven’t seen this wicker bag before, you’d be right! It’s vintage — but new to me. All the details in this month’s “Closet adventures” post, to be posted later this week!
