SIA: Golden inspiration (take 1)

My third blog anniversary is coming up this week, so if you haven’t already, make sure you enter the giveaway of your choice of a Greg Michaels leather wallet clutch!

Onto this week’s SIA challenge… Salazar @ 14 Shades of Grey curated this week’s challenge, and she picked a modern painting, “Golden,” part of a series called “The Flowers” by artist Crystal Liu. And there’s still to participate for bloggers and non-bloggers alike! If you’re inspired, just put something together and send Salazar a photo (14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com) by tonight. Salazar will then post the round-up on her blog, 14 Shades of Grey, tomorrow.

I had many ideas for this SIA challenge, so I ended up putting together TWO outfits for this challenge. This is my first inspired outfit, appropriate for a typical work day. And of course, I needed to incorporate one item from my “Top 10” remix challenge — so today I’m wearing my topaz drop earrings!

I ended up loving the effect of the metallic shades in my headband, earrings, necklace, heels, and in the print of my sleeveless top. I added my tan-and-black tote bag as a final touch to the color palette.

Stephanie and I wore our SIA-inspired outfits on the same day and took pictures for each other. And we realized that we both wore Oxfords brogues, which delighted us both! So OF COURSE we had to take a picture! 🙂

Hi Jen, You look BRILLIANT in this outfit- it goes SO well for the inspiration. You should definitely wear more headbands, they really suit your hairstyle! The shoes are super! Are Oxfords like Brogues? Have they had a recent surge of popularity in the US like they’ve had in the UK- I don’t think I’d heard of brogues a few years ago!

I looked up Oxfords vs. Brogues… and it turns out these are brogues! So I corrected that on this post. Oxfords are shoes with front laces, and brogues are when the extra stuff (“wingtips” in what I think is American English) stuck on top of it. So you can have brogues that aren’t Oxfords, and vice versa.
