It’s Style Imitating Art (SIA) time again! Salazar @ 14 Shades of Grey is curator for this week’s challenge, and she picked a modern painting, “Golden,” part of a series called “The Flowers” by artist Crystal Liu. Salazar picked it for its delicate, minimalist feel, which reminds her of classic Chinese and Japanese ink wash paintings. You can find the entire series here at http://www.cliuart.com/ (click on “show thumbnails,” and the series is located along the third row down). Any of “The Flowers” series can be used as inspiration for this SIA challenge.
Here is a detail of the watercolor painting:
I highly recommend you click the picture above to view the entire painting. It is absolutely beautiful, along with the rest of Liu’s works. I love the juxtaposition of bold and soft imagery and textures in this piece. I’m thinking a mix of metals — like bronze and silver — might be my starting point… but we’ll see!
So how do you participate in SIA? Bloggers and non-bloggers are both welcome to participate. If you’re inspired, just put something together and send Salazar a photo (email@example.com) by next Monday, April 6. Salazar will then post the round-up on her blog, 14 Shades of Grey, the next day. Have fun!
