SIA: Floral mixing

Spring Break!!!

Had to get that out of my system. (But I’m actually getting much of a spring break, as I have a national library conference this week. But STILL. Spring Break!)

This week’s SIA pick is from Jess @ Animated Cardigan, who went with a springtime theme for SIA this week. Jess selected a gorgeous stained glass window called Spring, designed by John La Farge and painted by Juliette Henson. There’s still time to participate in SIA, as submissions are due by tonight. Email Jess at with your submission. Bloggers and non-bloggers alike are welcome to participate!

I’ve really been into florals lately (I can hear Miranda Priestley’s voice in my head… “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” Hah! 😉 ) I could have gone with any of my floral-themed posts last week for the SIA challenge, including my getting fancy in a floral maxidress post, but I decided to break out a new floral tunic that I recently got from Lulu*s. I was lucky to win a $100 Lulu’s gift card in a recent giveaway @ Auteur Ariel, and one of the pieces I picked was this bright floral tunic. I thought the yellow in the floral pattern went well with the stained glass inspiration, as did the magnolia tree backdrop. I wore this outfit last week for a casual dinner out with my husband.

In fact, I selected TWO floral pieces from Lulu’s, the tunic and this floral clutch. So I decided to pair them together — and Sam promptly pronounced my outfit as an example of “floral mixing.” And thus a blog post title was born! 😀

Details:  Floral tunic:  Lulu’s, c/o giveaway, new {exact} {similar pattern on a dress from same shop} //  Olive ankle pants:  Tommy Hilfiger via Macy’s {similar}  //  Floral clutch, Lulu’s, c/o giveway, new {exact} {similar} {similar} //  Black ballet flats:  Payless, old {similar}  //  Gold bar pendant necklace:  Lulu’s, c/o giveaway, new {similar from same store}  //  Yellow rose stud earrings:  Local boutique {very similar}

I chose simple gold jewelry (the gold bar pendant necklace is also from Lulu’s!) and yellow rose stud earrings.

A very friendly neighborhood cat came out to say hi!

I think the floral mixing with the tunic and the clutch works here because although the patterns are different, they include a lot of the same colors (like bright pink and yellow). And the clutch background is cream, so it stands out against the soft black of the tunic.

Have you ever mixed different floral patterns together? Please leave a comment and let me know.

    I love your floral blouse! The pictures turned out great too because of the Tulip Tree in the background and of course the kitty.
    I clicked on the maxi dress picture and that is a beautiful dress!
    Thanks for sharing,

    Such a pretty tunic and clutch! Last year I started adding floral to my wardrobe and I am looking forward to pulling some of them out soon to wear. Happy weekend, Jen!
