SIA: Lunar New Year inspiration

It’s Style Imitating Art (SIA) time again! Salazar curated this week’s challenge, and as she is preparing for the Lunar New Year, she picked a traditional Vietnamese woodcut painting. These paintings originated from the village of Dong Ho, so they’re called “Dong Ho paintings,” and people used to hang them around the house for Lunar New Year decoration. Dong Ho paintings have interesting themes, and this one is called “Carp,” a symbol of good luck and success.

Salazar chose this one because the pattern and colors could translate well into an outfit. Lots of bright, cheery colors to inspire you. I love learning about the traditional history behind these paintings — what a great choice for SIA!

So how do you participate in SIA? Bloggers and non-bloggers are both welcome to participate. If you’re inspired, just put something together and send Salazar a photo (14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com) by next Monday, February 23. Have fun!
