My turn again to co-host SIA (Style Imitating Art), and my choice this week is a stunning piece by Renaissance sculptor Properzia de Rossi (1490-1530). Properzia de Rossi was as well-known for her miniature carvings as for her large-scale marble sculptures, and she got her start carving peach stones.
In fact, that’s one of her pieces that I chose as this week’s SIA choice: a silver filigree Grassi family crest embedded with peach and plum stones carved by de Rossi. You can read more about the crest as well as Properzia de Rossi here.

Interpretation:
I started with the jewelry, as befitting my SIA choice this week. I chose this coiled knot necklace first, and then remixed cream, grey, and plum-colored items together. (If you’re a longtime reader, then you will probably recognize everything I’m wearing. Remixing = real life.) I had originally picked out grey tights — but then the light bulb went off in the morning to go with my wine-colored chevron tights. Definitely the way to go, as it added a bit more pattern and interest to the overall look.
Details:
- Grey cardigan {exact}: August Silk via Macy’s, gift-carded this fall
- Cream blouse {same blouse in different colors and patterns}: Kohl’s, last winter
- Burgundy pencil skirt {similar}: LOFT, fall 2012
- Chevron tights {same tights in teal} {plum tights}: ModCloth, this fall
- Grey heels {similar}: Kohl’s, old
- Coiled knot necklace {very similar} {double-strand option}: Kohl’s, gift-carded spring 2012
- Silver earrings {similar}: My mom’s, vintage
- Silver-and-crystal statement ring {similar}: Abu Dhabi, old

My friend and colleague Stephanie took today’s outfit photos. For the following two photos, Stephanie jokingly called them “Sam shots” — as he likes the cheesy poses! 😉
There’s still time to participate in SIA, if you’re interested. Just send me a photo of your outfit inspired by this SIA pick by tonight, January 26, by 10 pm PST, and I’ll post all the submissions tomorrow. My email address is librarianforlifestyle@gmail.com.
And for more SIA fun, check out SIA co-founders Jess @ Animated Cardigan and Salazar @ 14 Shades of Grey.
Linking up with these lovely ladies!
LOVE this with the chevron tights. Great choice!
Thanks, Erin! That’s why I so much prefer to take pics on the day, as sometimes those little touches don’t come to my mind until I am actually about to wear the outfit for real. 🙂
Loving this look! I love that you chose patttern tights with this outfit, it makes it really fun! Your accessories are so cute!
Wow, thanks, Julie, so sweet of you to say! I agree, the patterned tights really made the look for me 🙂
The jewelry you chose really adds a pop – and I love those tights. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday!
Thanks so much for stopping by, Patti 🙂
That skirt is so cute! Those tights compliment it so perfectly!
Thanks, Laura! So glad the light bulb went off that morning about the chevron tights 🙂

Love this look, especially pattern tights!
Alena & http://garmentsspeech.blogspot.com/
Thanks, Alena! I got these chevron tights from ModCloth — they’re sold out right now but periodically come back in stock 🙂
Okay, you literally just gave me an outfit idea for next week! (I don’t work Thursday/Friday). Oh my goodness. Thank you for this post! (oh and the jewelry is incredible, but I was more focused on the actual clothing and how easy I could recreate and the thought process of “Why didn’t I think of that?!”)

Understated Classics
What a lovely compliment, Clare! I’m so happy my own outfit — inspired by my SIA choice — in turn inspired you! What in particular inspired you — the patterned, colored tights?
It was the cranberry skirt, white tee and gray sweater!! And I’ll probably be boring and wear black tights but still!
If you go with black tights, maybe go with a black scarf or necklace to tie it in with the rest of the outfit? Ooooh, or do you have patterned black tights? Anyway, hope you feel GREAT wearing the outfit, and thanks again for your supportive comments! 🙂
Oh, how I Love this, Jen! The colors alone make me happy, but throw in those amazing tights and heels and I am positively swooning! Love it.
That is really such a sweet thing to say, Jennie, thank you! Your comment has made my day! And I can totally see how you would rock this kind of look and silhouette 🙂
Love this outfit! I really need a burgundy pencil skirt. I love your knot necklace, too – it kind of reminds me of the one Vesper Lind (Eva Green) wears in Casino Royale.
Yes, you’re right, it does kind of look like that necklace from Casino Royale! Funny how many times I’ve seen that movie and I never thought of that. Thanks for your comment! 🙂
Hubba hubba, you sassy librarian, you, with those great tights. You look as adorable from the back as you do from the front. Love this SIA post. If you will be doing another, I would LOVE to participate. I am a recently retired librarian feeling very lost and looking for my new purpose in life.
I love how the chevron pattern on these tights makes them interesting from all angles! And YES, SIA challenges are bi-weekly, and we rotate the choices. This week will be a new SIA challenge, and I’ll have the post about it up and all the details about how to participate on the my blog this Tuesday. 🙂
