Back to work in black + burgundy + cobalt blue

After a lovely holiday break, winter term started with a bang in early January! The start of a college term is always stressful — for students and faculty alike — but I always feel better when in an outfit that makes me smile. 🙂

Yes, that’s right, I wore three new items for my first work day of a new year:  my new eyeglass-pattern t-shirt, a newly thrifted moto jacket, and my new bag from Greg Michaels! By the way, good news from Greg Michaels — use the special reader code “fashionista” for 20% off your order! (You can also read my review of Greg Michaels jewelry here in this post.)

(Note: It was almost dark when I got home from my first day back to work for winter term, so these photos came out a bit fuzzy. And yes, it took a couple of weeks to post about my first-day-back-to-work outfit. All those retrospective posts extended my posting schedule.)

Details:

  • Black moto-style canvas jacket {knit moto cardigan option}:  St. John Sport, newly thrifted
  • Eyeglass-print t-shirt {exact}:  JCPenney, newly gift-carded
  • Burgundy pencil skirt {similar}:  LOFT, two falls ago
  • Blue handbag {exact} {similar and less expensive}:  c/o Greg Michaels, this winter
  • Black tights {exact}:  DKNY via Macy’s, gift-carded this fall
  • Black ballet flats {similar}:  Payless, old

I LOVE the eyeglasses print on this t-shirt, which I gleefully pointed out to colleagues all day! I also received a few compliments on my new moto-style jacket. (I’ll have more info about this thrifted piece next week in my monthly budgeting post.) I love the seaming details, which continue onto the back of the jacket.

Thanks, Claire! It was so perfect with the “pops of color” theme on your linkup! And I’ve never been as into bags as I have with shoes, but it’s super fun to have a bright blue handbag! And I’m totally in that phase of “Sure, this bag goes with EVERYTHING! It’s practically a neutral!” 😀

    Hi Jen!
I do like your new bag! And go and link up with Maricel at TARDIS Tuesday because your bag is totally TARDIS coloured!

This t-shirt is still available in the large size — which is the size I got. It’s a little loose on me, but I don’t mind that at all. It has really nice details on the sleeves and a curved hem, so I would highly recommend it, even beyond the cute eyeglasses print 🙂
