Continuing my mini-series of favorite-flavored posts — see also here to vote for your favorite outfit of December and here to see the most popular posts of 2014 — here’s a round-up of my 10 favorite pics from last year. I got this idea from a post on another blog (which I can’t find now, sorry!), and I had fun going back through my posts and selecting my favorite photographs. My faves are not always outfit photos, either — or if they are, not always of my favorite outfits. Some of my favorite pictures this past year are goofy, some are contemplative, but each one makes me smile in remembrance.
Without further ado, my top ten favorite pics from last year. I’ve also linked the original blog post below each pic.
A recent photo this past holiday season from my “Christmas Casual” post. I just love the composition of this picture, with the architectural details of the door and the colors of the cheery red paint and turquoise steps. I’d been wanting to take photos at this church since it was restored earlier this year, and I’m glad we waited until the holidays for the festive look of the wreaths!
Another favorite from this past month, from my “SIA: Celebrate” post. I grabbed the smiley face balloon not only because it fit the style challenge but also because it helped me celebrate my mom’s birthday! This is my favorite outtake from this post, as Sam captured a totally natural laughter response from me.
Another familial favorite! This collage and juxtaposition of me and my Grandma Frances comes from my “Retro inspirations + family connections” post. I just love seeing how I resemble my grandmother — even in posing stances!
Yes, I am quite a sentimental romantic, as yet again I choose a photo from a post with a personal connection. This shot is from the “Anniversary floral” post, capturing pics from my wedding anniversary this past summer. I like this photo for its contemplative mood. The setting is the Lan Su Chinese Garden here in Portland, a space that encourages contemplation and reflection. And that’s exactly what I was doing — Sam captured this photo without me knowing about it!
Another contemplative photo — but one that was on purpose. This is from our trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, this past spring and from the resulting “Visiting Vancouver” post. I was paying homage to the “Girl in Wetsuit” statue in Stanley Park.
Ahhhh, springtime in Portland, and from my post with the same name. Absolutely a gorgeous time of year here with all the cherry blossoms. I love the setting here with the trees and backdrop of Waterfront Park, along with the whimsical pose and casual outfit.
A change of seasons! This is from my “Snow Day” post last winter. This picture cracks me up! And I remember how much fun all the kids were having at our local park just down the street, and the joy I felt that day, which is also reflected in this photo.
And for something completely different… this is a shot I took of the top of my dresser and featured in my “Personal, practical, pretty: A view of my dresser” post. I really love this space in my home, with its combination of colors, textures, and practicality, and this photo fills me with serenity and joy. And yes, this is really what the top of my dresser looks like, give or take some items of miscellaneous jewelry scattered about.
Sam played along with the SIA fun in my “SIA: Serenade round-up post” — you have to view the post to get the full significance of this picture! — and the resulting photo makes me laugh every time.
And OF COURSE I had to include this shot from our “Holiday card behind-the-scenes” photo shoot and post. I do remember feeling annoyed in the moment at Sam “messing up” the photo — but that momentary annoyance was totally unjustified when I saw the resulting pic. This is totally us, and I’m so glad we included it in our holiday card, which you can see here in this “Holiday card reveal: Sending you winter wishes” post.
