Stripes + florals + bicycles

Mixing stripes + florals + bicycles… as you do. Or rather, I do. 😉

As you can see, I had a bit of fun mixing patterns today! The patterns work together, I think, because of the common color combination of red and blue. (I love me some red, white, and blue!) Plus, the bicycle print is smaller in scale, bridging the bolder patterns of the striped flats and the oversized floral pattern of the belt and headband.

The most common questions I had today were:

  • Are those… bicycles? [Yep. So very Portland.]
  • Does your headband match… your belt? [Yep. I made both from leftover fabric from when I hemmed this this dress.]

And the short hair experimentation continues! You can also see how this self-made headband looked when I had longer hair here and here.

Gotta admit, I felt so cute today that I had Sam put on the sports setting on our larger camera. Jumping for joy in my stripes + florals + bicycle prints! 😉

The prints definitely work together! The color combination is so classic and the prints make it so fun. Headbands are my favorite. They always take me back to Blair Waldorf in the early GG days.

Totally, I loved Blair’s headbands! I have also used her trick (or rather, the show’s hairstylist’s trick) of securing a headband by wrapping a bit of hair OVER the side of the headband and pinning it. Adds a bit of dimension to a headband and secures everything in place.

Jen, this is perfect! I always love your navy & red outfits, that bicycle print dress, those shoes, and the fabric you used for the headband and belt, so I’m glad they all combine so beautifully. Your hair looks gorgeous with the headband, and I love that your simple earrings fit the color scheme, too!

Thanks so much, Izzy! Such thoughtful and supportive comments, always. I was worried a bit that this outfit would come off as busy or all-but-the-kitchen-sink kind of thing, but I’m glad it looks more cohesive. Perhaps the key was grounding it with the more basic, simple pieces, like the navy stud earrings and navy cardigan?
