What I got (September 2014)

Back-to-school shopping, y’all! I stocked up gift cards and coupons in anticipation, and best of all, I spent less than $2 total for this month’s haul!

First stop, Old Navy, where I had a $100 gift card earned from credit card points. We spent a majority of the gift card on back-to-school clothes for my husband (he’s a college English professor), but I chose one item for myself:  a plaid infinity scarf in shades of berry and orange, seen in the top right corner of the photo below.

Next was Macy’s, where I had another $100 gift card, again earned from credit card points. As we spent most of the Old Navy gift card on Sam, I got the Macy’s gift card. Teamwork! 🙂 I also had a 20% off coupon, as well as an additional $10 gift coupon for having a Macy’s credit card. I chose a couple of basics, including a dark purple cardigan from my favorite August Silk brand and DKNY black opaque tights, a brand recommended by my friend Stephanie. I’ve also wanted to expand my scarf collection, so my husband and I went hunting around the scarves and ultimately decided on this soft blue-and-orange paisley scarf. (He loves me in orange!)

A couple of weeks later, I was still thinking about these leopard-print + patent leather flats that I came across during that first shopping trip. I have slowly been adding more animal print into my closet, and I know from Erin @ Loop Looks how versatile animal print flats can be. These are a rare pair that AREN’T calf hair (which gives me the shivers). So I went back to Macy’s yesterday and picked these up, and best of luck, they were on sale!

And I still have money left on the Macy’s gift card!

I had also earned a $50 Lands’ End gift card from doing online surveys, and it surprised me to learn that I could only use it online. But since I had heard rave reviews of this fit-and-flare dress from Lisa @ Respect the Shoes, I scooped up this dress on sale online.

Also while online — and knowing I could earn free shipping if I could fill my cart to $50 — I perused the sale section on the site, and came across two gorgeous scarves, one in vivid green floral and the other in a soft pink geometric pattern. I’ve been wanting something pink, as well as a floral scarf, so these two were perfect! It also helped that they were on clearance, but that also means neither scarf is available anymore.
